On the hunt for chewable calcium citrate
Hello everyone, I had surgery on 3/9/11. Prior to surgery I bought Centrum Chewables and could not find any chewable calcium citrate. Any suggestions? In my handbook it suggests we buy Centrum Chewables or Bariatric Advantage. I have just compared the ingredients in both and the Centrum is coming up a little short. Any suggestions? I will probably purchase the Bariatric Advantage. I found Centracal (sp) petites-no chewables. All of the little chewables were calcium bicarbonate. What do you guys buy as far as vitamins/calcium? I am thinking of looking into liquids. Thanks in advance for your help.
I use the bariatric advantage calcium citrate chewables.
I've used the citracal petites b4 and they are OK, but the BA is better IMO. You could also check into the Celebrate brand of Calcium citrate.
I used the big ole pills for a while after surgery when I had a minimum amt of fill in my band. used a pill cutter to break into 4ths and took with applesauce or yogurt.. even doing that they hurt. I finally gave in and bought the BA lozenges.. NO MORE PAIN!!
BA also has calcium in what's called a "chewy bite" and they're acceptable too. Some even like them better. My doc's office will hand out samples. Have you asked your doc about samples?
I use the Centrum chewables for my multi.. and my doc is fine with that.
Hope this answers your question.
btw.. they did tell you not to take your calcium & multi at the same time? if your multi has iron it will interfere with calcium absorption. This is very important. Should be at least 2 hours time between them.
And very important to get your calcium in. I just had my every 2 year bone density scan done and I've lost some density in my bones since I've lost so much weight. It's not enough to be concerned about (I'm still in the 95th percentile), but it worries me.
Radiologist said if I hadn't been doing weight lifting for a year, I'd be in much worse shape!!

You aren't malabsorbing anything, the BA vites are very expensive, don't taste great, and they are simply drastically over priced. Centrum is fine, they come in adult chewables too.
For calcium citrate (excellent, btw... many are unaware nobody absorbs carbonate well) you have a gazillion choices. Liquids, powders, capsules, tablets, chews, lozenges, crystals, brownie like things, you name it, it's made that way. I would check out Melting Mama's blog, she has every calcium product available with photos as well.
