Port area pain due to exercise?

I continue to develop pain at the port site primarily after doing abdominal exercises.  I got my lap band in August of 2006, lost about 50 pounds then gained alot of it back. I was not exercising a lot during the initial weight loss.

I had my gallbladder removed in Dec 2010 and since this time I decided it was time to make some changes.  I changed everything.  Daily workouts and food intake is now low fat, health lean grilled chicken, lots of veggies and fruit, some whole grains.  Since then I have lost 18 pounds.  I have no fluid in my band.  Gave up on the band some time ago.

So my question is as you all have lost weight and stepped up your work out regimin did you experience any pain at the site of your port?

When I do Zumba and do alot of twising of my stomach I can get sore there its just for a couple days though but its not a pain where I need to take any meds for it just a little uncomfortable.

But I dont know if that is from the actual port or me working muscles that I didnt know I had lol.

I feel this pain a few times a month...   from what I've been told its the muscle that's causing the "pain".   Since our ports are stiched the the muscle wall, when we work it, it could cause the discomfort around the port area.

well if that is that case that totally blows!  how does one work their abs if it causes pain every time. My pain requires ibprofen or tylenol plus sleeping with a heated blanket around the area.  AUGH!!!

Just because one person has pain, does not mean everyone is going to have pain.  We are all different.  I have never had abdominal pain from working out that area.  My doctor said he did a band on a boxer and there were no problems with him.  Why did you give up on your band?  We don't like to  hear from the "Negative Nancy's" because it is the same old BS they want to ram down every ones throat.  Nothing ever changes for them.  However it is good to hear every ones story, good or bad.  Sometimes someone has insight that can be of help that can change ones perspective on their lifestyle.  Sounds like you are on a good regimen.  Thanks for sharing.

I never have any pain in the port area...could that be because I have the Realize Band and they attatch the port differently???  Hmmm...I wonder

I get a bit of discomfort from doing extended bicycle type ab work.. so I do them till I start hurting and then stop and do regular crunches.

If what you are doing is causing pain to the point of needing medication, I'd do some less intensive work.. or build up to the more intense work.

My docs basically say, if it hurts, don't do it.  A little discomfort is OK.. pain is not.

Your diet and exercise plan sound awesome.  Way to go on the 18 lbs!!

I get a mild discomfort when doing ab exercises at my port site, especially when I lie on the floor to do the ab exercises.  Therefore, I like to do standing up ab excercise, like Zumba.  Congrats on your healthier food choices and daily workouts. :)

Regarding the person who indicated no one wants to hear from "Negative Nancy" and that I am ramming things down your throat I would ask that you not correspond to this post.  I did not find my post negative towards the band.  It did not work for me for various reasons.  Not every technique works forever one.  People should be respectful on these boards to others, be caring, non judgemental.  I was simply asking for some feedback regarding some pain issues I am experiencing.

I paid cash for my surgery, $13500, so don't think I didn't want this to be a success.  I also had to paid $250 for each fill in addition to the initiall 13500.  At some point you just run out of money.  My surgeon was 3 hours away and due to demands of my job, full time employment and private practice part time I opted to see an ARNP locally for fills.  My hair started to thin, maybe due to nutritional deficiets, maybe due to age, I'm 38 now and was 33 when I got the band (I think).  I don't know for sure if my band was ever got to the correct "sweet spot" descite multiple fills.  It became easier to eat foods that went down easier as I quickly got tired of running to the bathroom when food got stuck.  This was my experience, take what you want and leave the rest.  I'm glad I did not gain back every pound I lost.  So for that the band was helpful.

A few other mistakes or changes or things I would have done differently would have been to only work one full time job.  Working 60 hours a week left no time for me.  Left no time to work out. Left no time to plan for healthier meals. I was exhausted.  Self care is vital to all people regardless of what their struggles are.

So the leason I take away from those that have replied to this post is to not do such intensive ab work.  Its intersting as it doesn't hurt much during the workout but kicks in a few hours later.  Thank you all, including evil twin for your feedback.
