Carb Question

First I want to thank Lisaizme for telling me about the flat out bread !! I found it today and it looks yummy and cant wait to make a pizza with it :o)

Now my question .

On the flat out bread pkg it said 6 net carbs and on the back it says 16 carbs but it has 9 grams of fiber per slice which is really good actually.

Why do you subtract the fiber from the carbs ?   Somebody did this on my fiber bar I was asking about also a week or so ago .

So am I really not eating 16 carbs but only eating 6 carbs ?

And do you subtract all the time when it has fiber ?

And  one more when I journal this food in my daily intake of carbs do I go by net carbs or the one that is on the nutritional thingy ?

Thanks for any help :o)

The fiber is part of the carb count but it is not absorbed or metabolized.  It just adds bulk.  You do subtract the fiber from the carbs to get the "net carbs".

so when I eat a slice of this do you go by net carbs or actual carbs when I add this to my food intake for the day ?

From what I understand (and anyone please correct me if I'm wrong) the more fiber and the less sugar the healthier the carb is.  So something like an apple is a good carb where something like a cupcake is bad...meaning there is too much sugar and not enough fiber to make the cupcake healthy.

As far as what to count when keeping track of carbs...I count the actual carbs.  The reason I do is because I feel a carb is a carb.  I just use the net carbs a guidline to measure how healthy the carbs are in a given food...like bread.  So many breads have high fructose corn syrup.  I have not eaten bread lately...but it was an observation.

I will be interested in seeing what the others say.  I am always ready to learn new things.

thanks for that info :o)

this must be a good bread then because it has zero sugar in it  16 carbs, 9 grams of fiber, 2.5 grams of fat,  and it has 9 grams of protein in it and only 90 calories and its pretty big also gosh .

When I make a pizza out of it and keep it flat there is enough there for two meals .  I think i will make myself a pizza tomrorow and see how it tastes.

Lisa really likes it.

Its called flat out and I found it in my store's deli section .

They have whole wheat, and light original which is the one I got. I'm not a big wheat fan and to be honest  there wasn't much a difference in the nutritional numbers :o)

I've used these for pizza before -- if you like a thin crispy crust like I do -- you will probably LOVE it!

I love flatouts pizzas! I get the light Italian ones & it's the same nutrional value. More tasty! You can also make pizzas on portabella mushrooms! Take off the stem & middle & add your sauce, spices & toppings & bake! Excellant stuff!
