Hello everyone.  I am brand new here!  I am scheduled for lapband surgery at Geisinger in Danville on March 23!  I'm so excited.  Hubby isn't, but I am.  I can't wait.  Anyone have any tips or advice for a new member??  Thanks everyone!

Woo hoo! I'm scheduled for 3/29 myself . How come your hubby isn't excited? Is he just nervous about the surgery, or do you not have his support in using surgery as a means of helping you with weight loss?

 congrats on your surgery date!

my boyfriend wasn't super excited when i first started the process, but over time, i came to understand that it wasn't that he wasn't happy for me, but scared of the idea of any type of surgery/complications.

men aren't always as eager to discuss their feelings --- especially those of fear. i would encourage you to explore those feelings with him. having him in your corner will be especially important in the weeks both before and after surgery.

good luck!

Hubby isn't excited because I think its his own insecurities.  He just has to deal with it.

Congrats on your surgery date!  My band has made a huge (and wonderful) difference in my life!  It is a bit of work and takes some dicipline, but it sure makes it easier to stay on track!
Be sure and post as soon as you are home from the hospital...we will make room for you on the "loser's bench"!
Good Luck!
Steph

Congrats on your surgery . I had mine a little over 3 months ago and couldn't be happier.  I'm learning how to eat properly, to slow down, to pick this food over that food and its a great feeling and even enjoying exercise lol.

Just remember going into this , the band is a tool only , it dont make your food choices, it dont make you exercise and it dont stop you from drinking them liquid calories. . Remember them rules and you will be just fine :o)

do alot of walking the first two weeks. I started to walk 15 min when I got back to my room and it helps alot . Walk walk and walk when you get tired of walking walk some more :o)

Get you a heating pad that will help, I never had to use mine but the girls on here said it helps for gas pains .

If you have fur babies and you are sitting down in the lazy boy chair my fur babies love to lay with me so make sure you put a pillow down so when they do the doggie flop down it dont hurt you :o)

I found it easier to sleep in the lazy boy chair the first 72 hrs.  IT was just to uncomfortable to get in and out of bed and to find a good sleeping position .  I'm a tummy sleeper also so I didn't want to turn over on my belly to soon lol.

If you gain weight the first 6 weeks post op dont worry its a time for healing not losing weight .  I gained about 6 pounds but it all came back off when my body got use to solids again .

Follow post op rules to a T !!! You can get advice on here but do what your doc tells you to do first and foremost no matter how many people tell you what they did everybody doc is different .

I was very lucky and it was a super easy surgery for me.  I went in at 1 pm out by 3 pm and home by 7 pm that night and I was suppose to stay the night but I was doing so well :o)

The only thing that was sore was my upper tummy it felt like I did a million sit ups but it wasn't  a a painful pain where i had to run and take meds for it.

When you sit down , get up from the potty, or get out of bed the first 72 hrs see if somebody can help you up that way you dont work them tummy muscles as much :o)

I was back to sleeping on my tummy after 7 days and moving around really good after the first week .

Good luck if you need anything just let me know or feel free to pm me :o)

thank you so much for all the advice.  Good thing is that I am having surgery Wednesday, thursday I will be home by myself and Friday my husband is home.  Hopefully i will be okay Thursday.  I am getting my cleaning and stuff done today and tomorrow, so I don't have to worry about cleaning laundry shopping etc next  week....I am planning on going back to work on Monday after, so hopefully I will be able to stick to that....Dr said it should be okay..

Thank you so much for all the advice!!!
