Gastric Banding Shown to be Safe and Effective
Sandy yelled at me back on Spotlight Health. I posted about having left shoulder pain and she told me it was my fault because I wasn't chewing well enough. Used to sign ALL of her posts "Sandy, RN" like it made her words worth more, even when anyone could tell she was talking out her ass.

She was fined by the Oregon Board of Nursing for claiming she was a nurse. $5K as I recall and due to her financial situation (ie; no money) they reduced it to $2500.
She's a nutjob and a half.
She eventually started signing her posts as a 'band educator'. Bleh...
She wrote a band guide and would send it to bariatric surgeons asking for their opinion. They might or might not use it for their own patients. If they did not specfically tell her it was a load of crap she would list them as surgeons that actively used her band guide.

Wasn't she claiming to be having a band book published a year or so ago?
Last I heard she was working on it. It can't possibly be published, she'd be here selling it on a daily basis. My guess is that it was so bad she couldn't find anyone to print it for her and she'd have to self pay to get it published. If a book is any good publishers will print it and sell it. If they don't believe it will do well long enough to recoop their money you have to pay to have it printed yourself.
She wouldn't have the money to do that.
You are right, we all did start signing off in our sigs as band educator. She was claiming to work for Kuri a year after she was fired. She was banned from her own surgeon's message board for all the fake IDs. She couldn't get anyone to agree with her nonsense so she would create more troll IDs that would agree with her.
HA! Kinda like Naomi! ;o)

Oh yes I remember her well, remember??
First she was: Sandy RN
Then she was: Sandy R (without the N)
When I was first researching the band back in 2001 she did provide me with good information on the band I didn't pay much attention to what she said about the other surgery types but boy you couldn't find someone more pro-band in the history of this board LOL!

THAT is what got her in trouble with the board of nursing! ;o)
She was telling everyone she is a nurse and signing off on things as RN. Can't do that without a license.

Good article. Thanks. Stroh (the author) produced an excellent article about the incidence and prevention of slips. That was over a shorter time scale (4 years) but covered 4000 patients. They (Stroh and Monger) found a 2.6% slip rate and a 1% erosion rate but i do note that in the study you quote, she says that complications may increase after 5 years and that was a 4 year period.
This is good to post- a lot of positive, some worrying points but overall fair and not hysterical!!
