People have just been posting bits and pieces of this? Not the entire study? That's wrong.

Here is the link Bubbles so yes people when giving facts are NOT posting the whole article just what they want to post.

go look at Maria's post she only posted half of this article and Steph went and looked it up and then posted the rest of it in the same thread so no Maria did not post this whole article Steph had to find the rest of it so we could read the whole thing .

Then that is why Steph went and posted it again in this one because it was the whole thing together

That is why I made the comment if you cant post the entire article without paste and copy of what you want to show then dont post at all. '

give us all the facts not what you want to show .

Totally agree.  This is why I post the links.  I don't highlight specific areas, I don't post partial studies, I just post the link.  If someone wants to go and read for themselves they have the ability to do so.  I don't even post studies in my blog.  I try to be as neutral in my blog as I can.  Above and beyond anything else including surgery types, I just want people to start out with a good surgeon.

I don't remember Sandy, but here is who actually posted part of this study...I don't have an issue with posting facts and letting people make up their own mind, but posting PART of a study to support a position just isn't ok..I googled the title that she posted and found the entire report, which is somewhat favorable towards the band the way the surgery is done today, but cautions that more screening needs to happen in order to ensure the people prepared to do the work (follow the food plan carefully) are the ones who get a band.  Careful follow up is important as well, because things can and do go wrong often enough.

Here is the post, Tia...

Steph also since you objected to my info being outdated..............I am reposting this from a current post:

Fourteen-year long-term results after gastric banding.

Stroh C, Hohmann U, Schramm H, Meyer F, Manger T.

Department of General, Abdominal and Pediatric Surgery, Municipal Hospital, Straße des Friedens 122, 07548 Gera, Germany.

Abstract

Background. Gastric banding (GB) is a common bariatric procedure that is performed worldwide. Weight loss can be substantial after this procedure, but it is not sufficient in a significant portion of patients. Long-term rates for associated complications increase with every year of follow up, and only a few long-term studies have been published that examine these rates. We present our results after 14 years of postoperative follow up.

Methods. Two hundred patients were operated upon form 01.02.1995 to 31.01.2009. Data collection was performed prospectively. In retrospective analysis, we analyzed weight loss, short- and long-term complications, amelioration of comorbidities and long-term outcome.

Results. The mean postoperative follow up time was 94.4 months (range 2-144). The follow up rate was 83.5%. The incidence of postoperative complications for slippage was 2.5%, for pouch dilatation was 9.5%, for band migration was 5.5% and 12.0% for overall band removal. After 14 years, the reoperation rate was 30.5% with a reoperation rate of 2.2% for every year of follow up. Excess weight loss was 40.2% after 1 year, 46.3% after 2 years, 45.9% after 3 years, 41.9% after five years, 33.3% after 8 years, 30.8% after 10 years, 33.3% after 12 years and 15.6% after 14 years of follow up.

Conclusion. The complication and reoperation rate after GB is high. Nevertheless, GB is still a therapeutic option in morbid obese patients, but the criteria for patient selection should be carefully evaluated.

Ohhhh, Sandy is a trip.  She's a nurse that had her license revoked and then a couple of years ago was in trouble with the nursing board (and was fined $5K) for claiming she is still a nurse.

She would post nonsense, she'll be back.  You watch.  She would alter studies assuming nobody would go to the source and verify the info.  She claimed papaya enzymes would eat your stomach, RNY causes cancer... the list is endless.  She would create multiple fake IDs to support whatever wild claim she was making that day and when she was caught she would fake emails she received (from me) claiming I hacked her account.

She's a nutjob.  She rates right up there with NaBlowMe.

I 'heard' she lost her band to erosion and she was very upset with Dr. Kuri for not revising her to a sleeve with a payment plan.  Not sure this is true, Dr. Kuri does not even DO the sleeve, he's a band mill.

She was even banned from her own surgeon's message board for fake IDs.  She needed them to support her whacko claims.

Bette knows her well, believe anything she says.

Sandy looks a bit like little orphan annie!  Heh....

HA!  What do you THINK I meant?

Sandy couldn't tell the truth if her band depended on it.

I tell people to believe you about Sandy and what a real surgery war used to be like. ;o)

Here is an example of Little Orphan Annie;

www.obesityhelp.com/forums/lapband/3709117/Please-LISTEN-to- your-DOCTORS-FIRST-AND-FOREMOST/#29481338

She's something else.  She forgot to change IDs before posting. ;o)  She was posting as Sandy but under her troll account.  Then she altered an email I sent her and forwarded it to someone else accusing me of hacking her account and trolling under her IDs.  The person she sent this altered email knew I wouldn't do that, hell... I can barely turn my computer on daily let alone hack someone's account.  So I gave her my password and let her see the original email for herself.

She's a big huge PITA.

Whenever she's short on cash she comes back as a band educator.  Then she tries to sell these worthless CDs, bariatric vitamins, and other assorted nonsense.
