How soon after surgery did you start excercising?

I am 9 days post-op and I am feeling really good. I want to hit the tread mil or the pavement and go for a walk, nothing extreme, maybe a mile or so. I have been up moving around since the night of my surgery. I just feel the need to start exercising again. When did you all start exercising again?

I was allowed to walk as often as I wanted to. I was not allowed to go back to my Aerobics till six weeks later

I live a pretty activie life, I am a stay at home with two kids, 5 and 3. So needless to say it's hard to ever really sit down. I was really loving my "Jenny Time" which was going for nice long walks. I think I will head out this evening and go for a walk...again nothing extreme.

My surgery was on a Wednesday and by Saturday I walked outside for 2 miles - not fast tho - maybe 3mph max.  Slowly continued to work up - but not full on with ab exercises until 6 weeks.  But my doc said walk walk walk from day 2!

I recommend hitting the pavement but not the treadmill in case you get dizzy, you dont want to misstep and fall off. I started the day of surgery....walking.

I was told to walk, walk, walk from day 1.

I was walking about 2 miles per evening in my neighborhood by day 3 --- slow and steady.

I was cleared for all aerobic activity at 1 week post op (I had a wound check appt with my surgeon at that time).  No weight lifting or crunches for 6 weeks --- but treadmill, elliptical, etc after 1 week.

Take it easy -- don't over do it, but you should be fine to get moving!

i am 9 days out too and I so badly want to get moving but to be honest am not up to it yet. i have been so tired. i want to walk but not on the tread mill.... it scares me... but the weather where i live has been brutal... -20 with the windchill...60km/hour wind, or like today... pouring rain on ice covered roads.... so i am staying put for now... but as soon as thing break walking is where i will be. I was told no extreme work out for 3-4 weeks...
i can't wait to ride my bike!~

walked around the block many times. 1 week later i was crazed so i did 2 miles and was fine. The following week i was on the treadmill and 4 weeks later I was on elliptical.

I started walking the very first day.  First with frequent short walks and gradually increased distance and speed.  I waited a few weeks to take my Golden Retrievers because they don't always heel the best next to me and their jerking of the leash hurt.  They are my best personal trainers when I walk, they always want to go farther and faster!  I pretty much just did walking for my first year and that's when the weight was really coming off fast.

Just take it easy at first and see how you feel.

I hit the pavement tonight and went about 1.5 miles, felt pretty good. My side was a little sore so I didn't pu**** Good advise about the treadmill, falling off wouldn't be pretty! I am gonna head out tomorrow for some more...loved the peace and quite!
