MRI with Band

Does anyone know if there are special precautions that need to be taken before having an MRI (neck/thyroid) with the band?  I'm also having an ultrasound of the same area - any concerns with the band?  I'm currently at goal (on maintenance for a year now) with no band problems.

You need to let the imaging center know about your band asap and give them a chance to find out if it is a problem.  Don't wait until the day your procedure is scheduled.

I was told it would not be a problem but check with your doctor.

I just  had an MRI a couple weeks ago. My doctor said it was fine, but to let the MRI tech know that you have it because it would show up if that part of your body is scanned.  But you should call your docs office to see what they say.

Banded for two years and have a CT/MRI or PET scan every 3-6 months. I've also had a bone scan with no issues. Just be sure to let them know it is there so the tech isn't sitting there scratching his head wondering if a surgical instrument was left in your body! Yep, I had that happen when I had my PET scan in 2009. The doctor explained to me that your band & tubing are all plastic so there are no issues. But again, if you are uncomfortable, call your surgeon and ask.

I have had a MRI since my Lapband surgery. There was no issue. Something to remember if you are a Lapband post-op, always let any medical caregiver or facility know you have a Lapband. They need to know that you have a foreign body in your body. I always carry my surgery card with me too in the event I am unconscious.

Thanks for all the responses.  The doctor knows I have the band, but I'll make sure that the MRI facility and the tech know about it also.

I was curious to see what everyone had said about that too, still in preop stages here.  I also wanted to congratulate you on hitting your goal and keeping it for a year, thats great.  Congratulations

As an X-ray Techs wife I agree...Please call and let the tech know so that it can be noted. Never assume the doctors have related that info.
