Does gum do anything bad to us banders?

I'm  not someone who chews gum but the idea of swallowing some and it getting it lodged across the stoma....!   Ouch! Something the size of a piece of gum would not go through for me. And it wouldn't dissolve Not sure what would happen.

So if you chew it, I suggest extra care! A bit like I eat cherries - very, very carefully so I don't swallow the stone!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Again I wouldn't swallow it, but I haven't heard any reason why you couldn't chew gum.  I chew gum alot.  It keeps my mouth moist at work, and my mind off food.  Hope this helps

My doc doesn't want his bandsters to chew gum due to possibility of swallowing it and causing problems.

However, since I somehow managed to get to surgery w/o pre-op teaching.. I never knew this till months later.

I chew gum all the time, no ill effects other than maybe a bit more gassy (from the fake sugars in the s/f gum).  I've even been at the doc's office chewing away and they've never said anything to me.  I figure I outgrew swallowing my gum on purpose when I was in the 5th grade.. not planning on restarting now.

benefits of chewing gum (for me.. YMMV): keeps my mouth moist, satisfies my need/want/desire to chew.

I chew gum every day.  I'm 47 and swolled ia piece a couple of months ago.  No problem, but I was worried for a day or two.

At my last Dr appointment I forgot to get rid of the gum before entering the building.  I did get the evil eye from the dr but he didn't give me too much of a hard time about it.  He only said " MMM your chewing gum"  And me holding back the "ol crap "
Remember, if you want to be a 155 pound person, you have to EAT like one.

OK - so I worry too much!! Everyone else seems to think there is no problem, so go for it!!

I am so determined to keep my band when I know not everyone does, that I take precautions that may be unnecessary!
