Really Maria???? Tell me what irreversible damage has your band done to you?? Be specific please, and I will also go back and look at your previous posts.
I know my surgeon is one of the best I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH!
And lets be clear on this...are you saying that everyone who has had their band removed has irreversable damage??? Really??? And you say I am the one that needs to do more research?????
For the love of all that is holy,I hope you get that band out of you as fast as possible, Maria. It is making you sooo miserable and unpleasant!

The arrogance and cruelty of some of the posters on these boards astounds me. How do these people function in the real world???Listen up, we all have our own reasons for choosing our own surgery. In my case, I am unable to get any other surgery due to medical issues. I originally wanted the band, all those years ago. Major medical issues prevented me from getting any surgery for a few years. By the time I was ready and able to have surgery the VSG had just come out (2006). I called Cirangle and was told I was not eligible for the VSG b/c of a serious medical condition I had. The removal of the curvature of the stomach was "burning a bridge" for me. Fast forward to November of last year and in my consultation with him he absolutely ruled out RNY and DS (" DS....Oh Hell NO!") due to my pre existing medical conditions. So I am back to the band. I have done 10 years of research. I trust my Dr. I also know all the things that can go wrong with the band. I am going in with eyes wide open.
But you know what, the thing is...the band can be removed....totally.
No other surgery can be totally reversed. Not the RNY, definitely not the VSG and Definitely NOT the DS.
As long as I keep my band loose enough, look for the warning signs ( vomiting, reflux, etc) and follow up closely with my Dr. then I can prevent damage from being done.
But heres the kicker, worst case scenario, if in 2,3,4,5 years I am not happy with the band and something better comes along ( like the VSG did) and let's face it there are lots of Weight Loss surgery/procedures on the horizon, I can have the band removed, move on to something better and not have had to cut out organs or re-route them causing permanent / irreversible changes to my body.
No. NOT at all true! It can be removed. NEVER reversed! The damage will be there no matter how skilled the surgeon that removes it (and btw..........yours is one of the best).

Omg that is sooooooooo wrong! Do u realize how many bandsters have followed band rules to a T and and have slips/port problems/leaks/dysmotility/erosion????????????

Excuse me! There WILL be permanent irreversible changes to your body!
I think u might need to spend another 10 yrs. researching! lol
How is bypass less reversible than banding?
EAH either has me blocked or I have it blocked but for someone who has been researching for 10 years they don't know much.
I think this person deserves a band, seriously. Anyone that has been researching for 10 years and believes bypass is not reversible or following rules will ensure it of safety shouldn't have anything more invasive than a band. They wouldn't be able to handle it.

For some reason they seem to think in terms of REMOVABLE being REVERSABLE! Of course it can be removed..............but the damage is done. :-(

But here's the kicker, someone posted this on the band forum tonight about the permanent damage caused by her band
Removable.............Yes
Reversable.............NO

Hi,
Maybe some of you newbies should take heed. I am not negative band but spending 5 years as a bandster who lost 90%of my excess weight (155 pounds total lost) gives me some credibility to say: RUN RUN RUN!! For most of you, everything will go well in the first couple of years.
But long term, the band does some major damage to your body.
When I had my revision 3 years ago, I had adhesions and scarring everywhere. The original Inamed band was too tight for my anatomy even empty. I had a partial prolapse, slip, dysphagia and pseudo achalasia of the esophagus. IT is a permanent problem I now have when I swallow.
Last after having 12 fills and unfills, lack of restriction, major reflux and spitting up coffee grinds (blood) and a subsequent removal, I would carefully consider whether you want a band especially if you are self pay with a greater than 24% chance of a reoperation. Also if you move to a different state, no other doctor wants to touch you due to potential liability issues. Just saying.....
Hail to the sleeve on my 3 year anniversary today!!!!
Babs
If anyone else is interested in blocking the negativity NOT valid of some people I found a block button at the bottom of their post and I won't have to run across them in every uplifting thread I read. I have found that those that shouldn't have had the band in the first place because of their mental state NEVER change their mental state and that is what keeps the band from working and also, NOTHING usually works for them because they are not willing to do the work. I love my band, had terrible problems with it and my surgeon but struggled until I got it right and an healthly and a much more pleasant person to be around since my weight loss. I hope everyone has a great day!
I was disabled at 57 due to spinal stenosis, SI Joint dysfunction and a left knee that needs to be replaced. My bmi was over 48 and doing anything at all was extremely painful and emotionally exhausting. I had several co-morbidities besides the osteoarthritis including
HBP
High Cholesterol
Severe Acid Reflux (GERD) on meds since 2000
Sleep Apnea
Severe Asthma
Stress incontenence
Type 2 diabetes
Reactive Depression (due to the disability)
I was a size 24-26, 3x-4x and size 11 panties
I could not walk a block without experiencing severe pain, breaking out in a sweat, feeling faint (not from lack of cardiac function) from the pain. I couldn't go to the grocery store alone, stand for more than 15 min, drive for more than 45 min without stopping to walk a bit and my day consisted of moving from position to position to stay even somewhat comfortable. I was unable to work and lost most of my income and a lot of my social network. I couldn't attend my grandchildren's school functions, games or other events where I would have to walk any distance or sit in a confined space. I went to bed when it was too painful to be up and got up (often at 3, 4 or 5 am) because it was too painful to be horizontal.
Fast forward to today...I am hovering between size 16-18 P pants, size 16-18 tops (xl) and size 7-8 panties.
My pain is about a 3 on a scale of 1-10 vs 7-9 previously.
I can walk over a mile at 3 mph! It is uncomfortable, but I don't feel like I am going to pass out from the pain.
I have attended my grandchildren's events and it makes them happy to see me there.
I can travel comfortably again in coach or in the car.
The only meds I now take are for my hbp (lower dose) and I occasionally take my gerd meds in a half dose (once or twice per week).
My sleep apnea is resolved
My diabetes is in remission...A1c is under 6 for the first time in 7 years.
I have not had to use my albuterol inhaler since surgery.
I sleep 8 hours at night and wake up pretty much pain free.
I can laugh and sneeze and cough without wetting my pants!
My back and knee are still painful, but so much better.
I am not depressed any longer.
The band was my choice because of the experience of my brother and some other friends who have it and have had NO complications and lost 100% of EW. Also, due to my age (61) malabsorptive procedures are not an option. My doctors recommended the band because of my medical history and age and their experience with banded patients.

Steph u are missing the point! The band has worked for u up untill this point. I am thrilled for that. That is what I want for ALL WLS'er! for them to have a WLS that will work! If they choose a more effective WLS.........that increases their changes that it will work.
Now u have a wonderful story to tell. You had had some very possitive changes with your band. I would NEVER even dream of coming on here and bashing u for saying how well the the band worked for YOU up till this point. NEVER would I tell you to NOT post.............but that is what u have done to ME!
I have just as might as u do to tell MY band experience! I also have the right, and I feel the responsibility, to post band stats and relevent band articles on here for pre-ops to have access to. Also for those that are having band issues to realize they are NOT the only ones having these issues!
So is this going to be a public forum or do u still want to censor what I am allowed to post on the forums???
