Starting over
Hi to you bandster's I have been on this journey since 2007. One band had to be emerg surgically removed. To having to wait almost a year to have the second one replaced in 2009. Since then it has been a struggle to get the wt off. The first band the wt fell off so quickly with the second on it is slow and the wt goes up the drops it is very hard to stay focus.
Today I am offically starting over. Had to have a defill because of having a scope. Now that is done I have decided to start today a fresh start to this journey.
Just looking for support and hearing from anyone who has had the same travel.
Thanks in advance
Laurie
PS I live in Nova Scotia Canada. (the Atlantic side)

(giggles) I'm glad you mentioned where NS, for those Americans who have no concept of geography IN the US, much less out of it. Greetings from Connecticut!
I know exactly what you're going through because I've been there. I had my old band replaced when I had a hiatal hernia repaired in 2008 (2.5 years after my surgery) and have been trying to deal with not being able to lose the little I want to lose at the same speed of light I had when I lost after my first surgery. And losing focus has been so, so easy for me. I've been out of a job for almost 2.5 years and am back to my old habits of eating to relieve stress.
But I'm trying to get rededicate myself to making this thing work. I've been dragging myself to the gym as ofter as I can, at least every other day if I don't have anything else getting in the way. I've lsot 3 pounds since last week, so at least I'm seeing some payoff.
The nice thing about the band is that you do get a chance to start over. Once you get some fill back in you, things should get a little easier. Just keep your head up, remember the basics, and you'll find your way back!

Hi Laurie! I can imagine it being harder to lose the second time around, because you lack that "gung ho" attitude that many of us have right after surgery. You have to find something to give you that spark or jolt to have the motivation to do what's necessary to succeed. I always say that if what you're doing isn't working, than try something else. Each day is a new day to do something different than you did before. It can be a change in what, how, or where you eat, how you move, maybe counseling or even just listening to a motivational CD, like guided imagery. I dropped 8 lbs. last summer just getting a job in retail and being on my feet all day. Focus on one area, and once you feel confident in making some positive changes, and losing a few pounds, you're likely to be ready for more changes.
One thing that people sometimes overlook is that fact that we need fewer calories as we lose weight. I just logged my weight into SparkPeople.com, and it said, "Congratulations, you have lost 10 lbs. since your last visit, now you need to adjust your calorie goals down!" Whoopee! Doesn't seem fair to be "rewarded" for weight loss with a lowered calorie goal, but that's the way it is.
Best wishes on your u-turn! You can do this!

Congratulations to rededicating yourself to the band rules, etc.
It's hard to gather the same enthusiasm when the band is no longer new and the lbs aren't falling off. I gained 16 lbs over the holidays and losing just 10 of them has been harder than the first 100. We know too much and don't have the fear that we had the first time around keeping us away from foods that may or may not work.
I rededicated finally in January and have lost 10 of the 16 by focusing on doing away with sweets and simple carbs. I know this works for me. I also joined WW for the weekly meeting and weigh in. It's helped keep my on track since I know that I have to weigh each week and I like the praise when I lose. It motivates me.
Do what you know works for you! Welcome back!
