3 days post surgery
I just had my lap band surgery on Friday and seem to be recovering well. Just looking for any advice for the next couple weeks. I'm eating mostly soup/broth and I try to have a protein shake per my doctor's advice. I'm having trouble getting enough water/liquids as I fill up so fast. I don't feel sick or nauseated after eating, but my stomach seems to gurgle for a while. I've also seen the terms "sliming" and "stuck' , but I'm not sure what this means. Thanks for any feedback. I want to stay on track and get my life back!
Congratulations! I had trouble getting liquids down post op too. Just sip water, and protein drinks all day long to get as close to what your surgeon/Nut has told you what you should aim for. It will get better pretty quickly, at least it did for me. The first time you get stuck, and it will happen, you'll know it. Getting food stuck is just what it sounds like, something won't go all the way down, so it has to come back up! I was about 8-10 months post op before I actually had a sliming episode. Again, the first time this happens, and it will, you'll know it. Good luck on your journey, Lori
Welcome to the "bench"!!!
The first couple of days are rough, just do your best, sip all day if needed. Your appetite may come back by day 7, mine did. Your stomach may be swollen for awhile after surgery. On the right of this screen there is info. Click on the blue, Post-surgery diet, nutrition and exercise.
Sliming is when your saliva "pools" in your throat, it has no where to go so it comes back up. when stuck, Stuck is when your food cannot go down the band, usually do to user error, eating the wrong food, eating too big of bites or too fast. Good luck and keep us posted!!

Mari Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels!
Congrats!! These days will b a little rough.. Make some s/f Jello, keep up with the liquids and broth, and I also recommend Generel Foods int. coffee, (s/f) or regular. It breaks up the boring diet and acts like a little "treat" (that is if u r a coffee drinker). If not, try flavored teas. Those are good too!
Keep us posted!

Congrads!!! Really try to get them protein shakes in if you can, they are very important especially now since you can't really " eat" protein.
I wouldn't worry about getting "stuck" now. After a few weeks and fills then you have to be more careful. I didn't have my first stuck episode until after my first fill and that was an aggressive fill. I have a few now and then but mostly because I am learning what to eat and what NOT to eat and I need to chew more.
Right now your stomach is swollen and when it goes down you will find you can eat more so just be a little more aware of your amounts and don't get frusterated. I gained a pound back during week 3-4 before my first fill because my stomach was healing and swelling went down.
Hang in there during these first few weeks post op. It does get better.
again Congrads on your new lifestyle.

Thanks for all the support! This is an exciting and scary new adventure. I have a new question. Again, I'm still on the liquid phase and I'm mostly drinking a protein shake and some soup. Today I had 1/2 protein shake for breakfast and then 1/2 cup mushroom soup for lunch. I know that's not a lot of food, but I get so full. I'm being very careful to sip and not chug and take it slow. What is happening is about an hour or so after I'm done drinking, my stomach starts to grumble like crazy and it actually is uncomfortable. It's like hunger pangs, but I'm full and there is some pressure with discomfort. The grumbling can go all the way into my esophogus. Anyone ever experience this? I probably need to eat more, but I was told to stop when I'm full. I have a follow up appt. on Thursday and will talk to the MD about this too.
