Yahoo news: Stomach Pacemaker to Curb Appetite
Abiliti, the "stomach pacemaker"? I read about it, and I'm under-impressed with the results (20% of weight loss after a year), the cost ($20,000+), and the longevity (5 years).
The only thing marginally interesting to me is that it records your eating and exercise history, which can then be sent to your doc or support group. That certainly would help with accountability!

Same here...quite underwhelming results, IMO.
5.0 cc in a 10cc lapband (four fills) 1 unfill of .5cc on 5/24/2011.
.5 fill March 2012. unfill of .25cc May 2012. Unfill of .5cc June 2014.
Still with my lapband with no plans for revision. Band working well since
last small unfill.

I'm in the process of reading an article about new way to curb appetite. It makes sense and sounds like a safer way to weight loss than stapling and such. The problem is that we don't eat merely for hunger, we eat due to head hunger. This device has such poor results because it does not really address the true issue. This is why all surgery types that have any success involve restriction.
That device has been around for quite awhile in clinical trials and the results are poor.

You are right we do eat cause of head hunger and many other emotional issues but even though you have restriction if you cant work out your issues as to why you eat, or working on the head hunger even restriction is not going to stop you from eating imo.
I have restriction but if I allow head hunger get the best of me it dont matter what kind of restriction I have you can eat around that restriction been there and done that a couple times now since I have had surgery and my latest was about 2 weeks ago . Eating around any WLS can be done .

One reason we overeat is because of the excess Ghrelin production. There is certainly a population of people that are just plain hungry.
Then you have OCD (me). My OCD only comes out in food issues. When I'm stressed I hyperfocus on food. I take Effexor, it goes away.
Then you have emotional issues. Food is a comfort to many.
There are probably more reasons but those are what I am aware of.
