I have a Sony E-reader, which is pretty awesome. My mother has a Kindle, and the only con to the kindle, is that books MUST be formatted for Kindle in order to load onto the kindle. With my e-reader, I can load all types of formats into my 'library' on my computer. It works ALOT like an ipod. You load e-books into your library and put them on your reader at your convenience. You can put like a hundred books on there, but why? That is just more titles to wade through to find what you want. Kindle can connect directly to the 'kindle store' online and you can download books directly to the kindle at will, not so with the e-reader...but who cares! I tend to buy ebooks on CD from ebay...like I bought 32 Sherrilyn Kenyon titles for 20ish dollars, and I bought Stephen King's The Talisman AND Black House for 7 or 8 dollars. Whichever you guys decide to go with, just make sure that body of the reader surrounding the reading screen in DARK...I have a couple of friends that got the white ones and they said after a bit, the white around the screen can be hard on the eyes. Good Luck!!

I've got a Sony e-reader and like the last poster, I love it! Mine is a bit out of date now - i got the very first one to be sold in the UK! I ordered it and stood outside the shop day they first came here!

I like the fact I can buy e books from anywhere in any format. And I gave the new touch screen one a trial and found the non-touch screen one suits me better! Actually less effort to change pages.

I got the Nook for christmas, and I LOVE IT, the best thing for me was that it is lit.  I will read sometimes in bed and the light would bother my husband.  No it doesnt.  Also I loaded music on mine and liston to that while I read. You can go on Barns and Noble and download free books and get discounted books, and there is even a sharing program.

When my husband got it for me, he told me to go to Best Buy and they had almost all of the readers so that you can compare them side by side.  I did that and still liked my nook best.

there is my 2 cents worth LOL.

Hi- this is funny that you posted this.  I did a bunch of research on the ereaders (6 months worth!) I just purchased a Nook Color for me, my daughter and I am purchasing another one for my mother!

The reason I chose this rather than the Kindle is because you can check out free books from the library on the Nook as well as download text books. The Kindle does not have this capacity. I am a voracious reader as well.  This will save a fortune in purchasing books!!!

Also - I found that the 3 G is an unnecessary component.  With the Nook, you can head into any B&N or go on any public wifi.  You have to pay att for 3g access even though they say you don't.

I am also very tech savvy. I love the nook color touch features.  Some other benefits, You can hop on the internet, loan and borrow books with friends/strangers,  listen to pandora, download video, watch you-tube, go on facebook, my space, tweet, and best of all READ IN A DARK ROOM!!!

PS: I did not buy my nook from Barnes and Nobel.  I got it at Best Buy because the warranty at Best Buy is for a new replacement.  Barnes and Nobel warranty replaces with a remanufactured model.

I can only speak for the Nook, but I LOVE mine. It can read all formats so sometimes you can get free books in pdf format and save some money. I am sure Kindle is up on the latest technology now but just double check that it can read multiple formats as that is a huge bonus. Plus with Nook some titles can be shared with friends. It provides a link to loan it to a friend digitally. LOVE LOVE LOVE mine :) Good Luck deciding!

I have the kindle, an older one but I love it.  There are lots of free books for the kindle which helps to expand what you might read.  Lots of the classic books. Games you can download through the kindle if you have the 3 g or a wi-fi area if you don't.   The newer versions are smaller and lighter than the older ones.   I think they are all great and you will love whichever one you pick.

I got a nook for christmas and I love it!!!  I chose to get the black and white not the color...simply because I read a lot outside and I had heard that it is hard to see the color outside..( kinda like looking at your computer) It isn't backlit so if I read at night in bed,,i have to have a book light...
but so far, i am really enjoying it!

I had a Nook, but returned it because the light in the lighted cover that I got with it tended to flicker on and off.  I ended up getting an iPad, which is nice for other purposes than as a reader.  But, to anyone who is considering the new iPad, and if one of your purposes is to use it as an e-reader, be cautious.  Apple may be removing the apps that allow reading Nook and Kindle books, and the books in the iTunes store are more expensive and they have a lousy selection.  If I had it to do over again, I'd probably stick with the Nook, and try a different lighted cover!
