Good for you.  We all need some support around here.  Sometimes I just want to reach inside the computer and slap some posters upside the head.

Yes people we have a implant in our bodies and sometimes sh$t happens.  We know this going in.  That is why my mother told me never to leave the house without wearing clean undies.  You might get hit by a bus.  Did she really think if that happened that the undies would still be clean once I arrived a the ER.  I had 3 children and all 3 pregnancies and births were different.  It did not stop me from wanting to get pregnant again, and pushing a watermelon thru a apple opening.  YIKES just has a flashback.

The band has done everything that it was supposed to do - in my eyes.  I cannot over eat dense food.  I can eat crap but nothing tastes as good a skinny feels.,  Yes I have my bad days ( like today.  sweet tooth central)  Tomorrow is another day and I will reduce the calories and put in extra time and effort at the gym.

OT - I had a skinny girlfriend who said to me.  Just do what I do.  When your jeans feel snug just don't eat for a couple of days.  At the time I wanted to kick her.  Reading that last statement I am turning into her LOL

Just remember if it sounds too good to be true it usually is ( surgery war statement) .  I am one of the smallest  people at my local support group and one of the newbies.  None of them exercise and push the limits on how much sugar they can eat before dumping. ( this is the RNY's)  one guy has lost 150lbs and is stuck .  So I asked him at the last meeting what is his day of eating like.  He says he eats 2500 cal min a day.  and exercises 5 x a week.  When I said to him that he needs to reduce his calories and change up his exercise routine he looked at me like I had 2 heads.

The thing I love about the band is that it is hard work and you need to put the effort in if you want to see results.  The RNY's have a honeymoon period where the weight falls off without them thinking or doing much and when it comes to a screeching halt they just accept that , that is the weight they are going to be.    I AM ONLY TALKING ABOUT THE PEOPLE IN MY LOCAL GROUP NOT ALL RNY'S.
Remember, if you want to be a 155 pound person, you have to EAT like one.

Denise -- loved your comments.

Dr. Oz says to 'put on your smallest pants that zip at least once a week' --- if they are snug, you know what to do.
For too many years, I lived in the denial that elastic waistbands provided.
Now, I put on my 'skinny jeans' at least once a week -- when they are too tight to wear out in public, I cut back --- and try again in a few days.  They keep me honest!

I opted for a band BECAUSE it required more on my part -- I was ready to do the work -- to change my eating habits and to exercise and 'diet' --- I wanted the boost that the band provided in regards to portion control.

I cut out the foods that triggered me to overeat (sweets primarily) -- and used my band as the tool that it is ---- to alleviate my hunger and allow a smaller amount of food to satisfy my hunger.

Now, as I am learning to maintain my weight loss, my band provides enough restriction to allow me to eat small amounts of lean/solid protein, and enough freedom to eat a reasonable amount of carbs/fats that I enjoy.  I continue to eliminate the sweets because I cannot eat a small amount of them and my band will not stop them.

Life is good!
Kath

Wow Denise I totally forgot about that quote "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels"!!  I'm also a firm believer in switching up the exercise our bodies adjust to the way we eat and exercise so we need to sometimes trick our bodies into losing the weight!

I haven't been to a support group in years but I certainly did for my first few years of weightloss and it was very helpful.  I used to have the "all or nothing" attitude, if I messed up I would say F*CK it and eat everything, and like you now I just say tomorrow is another day.

I'm so proud of you-awesome job!  I come from a long line of Italians with weight issues (that's another whole story) and I am the 4th person in my family who got WLS, 3 cousins had RNY and I had the band.  I have maintained the longest so far.  Thank you so much for sharing, Karianne

Great comments Denise & all so true....I'm fed up with the band knockers too, its very unfair to impose their negative views on new users. It seems to me if you help your band do its job, it will serve you well!!  I'm certainly happy with mine....lost 35lbs in 5 mnths.

Good luck for the future!

Jill

I am two years out and I have lost a total of 140 lbs so far...I want to lose another 50-60 lbs.

My highest weight was 354 lbs and I weigh 218 lbs!!!  I have lost a total of 49 1/2 inches...which is a little over 4 feet!!!  I wore a size 30-32 now I wear a size 18!!!

I work out 90 minutes a day, 6 days a week.  I can run up a flight of stairs.  I can sit in any chair I want, I fot in booths, I don't have to shop in the plus size department anymore, I'm off my BP meds...I am healthier now than I was at 30...heack I am probably healthier than I was at 25!!!

I have more confidence now.  When I dress up I think I look nice now.  I saw my reflection in a window and for a short moment I actually thought "who is that nice looking lady"...and it was me!!!

My daughter is getting married in June and my goal is to be at least a size 14 and I am wearing a really pretty strapless dress...not one of those boring mother-of-the-bride dresses.

I give you so much credit going for the lap band with such a high BMI, it just really shows that it truly can be a tool for people of all sizes.   To lose 140lbs to me is incredible.  With your commitment and focus I have no doubt that you will be in your size 14 dress for your daughters wedding!  I hope you post pictures

I am 13 months out and 84 lbs down.  I no longer have joint pain, plantar fasciitis, GERD or hypertension.  The only meds I take are vitamins and calcium.  I can walk for miles uphill both ways and not be winding or tired.  I have a very active job and find myself wanting to walk more instead of sitting at a desk and charting (I'm a nurse).  I feel and look at least 10 yrs younger than my 47 yrs.  My teenage daughters now steal MY clothes LOL!!

No it hasn't been easy, but it has worked.  I still have another 20-25 lbs to go.  I know I will get there.  Slow and steady wins the race, although actually it isn't a race...it's my life.  Feels really good to have it back
