Some friends and I were discussing what we think is a better cardio workout?

Elliptical with resistance, or jogging on a treadmill?

What method of cardio do you prefer???

ME - I used to be elliptical all the way.    Less "effort", Heart Rate just as high, calorie burn similar...  Now, Im a jogger and I LOVE it.  I love the "high" afterwards.

You know, about 4 years ago I bought a treadmill and a Bowflex.  I used the treadmill daily and after 4 years I still hadn't put the bowflex together and just sold it a few months ago. ;o)

Jeremy Gentles (OH staff) told me something a long time ago that really made sense.  You buy whatever piece of equipment you WILL use.  If you hate doing something (in my case, weights) then you won't stick with it.  Sheesh... after walking by that bowflex daily and never even looking at the directions, he was right!

I use the elliptical, but I do like the treadmill too. I just am too fat to be running on the treadmill for any real amount of time. Even on a .5-2% incline my shins will hurt like mad crazy for the next week. I can book on the elliptical though, just this morning I did 1.5 miles in 13:10...I have done faster, but I sure wasn't being a slack-ass. I think my body might ~literally~ fall apart if I attempted to do that on the treadmill.

I've been running in the neighborhood lately. I use the C25k Pro. (couch to 5k) and hope to be running a 5k in a couple months, Who woulda thunk it?

You definetly burn more calories on an elliptical and it's low impact.  But I have this goal to one day be able to go running with my daughter and maybe even run in a 1/2 marathon.  So I stick to a treadmil in hopes of building up my stamina and endurance enough to run one day.

me personally - I burn more calories while running, than on the elliptical because its more of a full body work out IMO.

I can definiately last longer on the elliptical though because the impact is lower, but I feel like I worked out harder and "better" on the treadmill while running.

Treadmill at home with a few reps of toning bands  after my cool down.

My husband and I just joined 24hour fitness so I have been doing all the different machines over the last couple of weeks.  I do love the elliptical ( really working my arse muscles.  )
Remember, if you want to be a 155 pound person, you have to EAT like one.

I had bought a treadmill a few years before my surgery, and it just collected dust. I have been using it for about 1 1/2 years now. I kinda want an elliptical, but don't have the room for another big piece of equipment.

I was told at the gym, by someone who is a trainer, that you burn the most calories on a elliptical. Now saying that, I prefer to use my treadmill. LOL
