Help! I have alot of air, gas, and whatever else is stuck in my body. My shoulders are hurting really bad and I have had a tad bit of pain on my chest. I am also finding hard to take deep breathes, it hurts! How long do I have to wait for it to go away?

hi jenny, i think I am through the gas pains but I made sure to move as much as I could in the last two days after the surgery. I had terrible pain on the first night, and had my boyfriend rub my back where the pain was. It was really sharp... that didn't help... i had heard moving your arms around alot really helps so I sat on the edge of the bed and gave my boyfriend a back rub... ON the night of my surgery!!! AND it WORKED... that intense pain went away... so move... I also had neck, shoulder and back pain, and i folded some laundry and tried to just move about gently... trying to move the gas around. My theory is that if you move it around it will dissapate sooner. a heating pad when you are relaxing helps too!
and as far as breathing deep... they say also that its important to breath deep as often as possible. Your diaphram is causing the pain... they move alot of stuff down there... i sneezed for the first time today... and it didn't hurt. I knew it was coming so I heldmy incissions tight.. I was so scared about that. I hope your pain goes away soon.

Hi Jenny.  Sorry it hurts so much.  I had a lot of gas, but truly walking is  the best relief for it.  Also, the shoulder pain; did they by any chance fix a hiatal hernia when they did your surgery.  I had some intense shoulder pain for a few weeks but it turned out that it was from the hernia repair.  it did go away, but boy did it hurt when it was there.  i know it hurts when yoiu breathe deeply, but it is OK.  Keep breathing.  You need to make sure you are getting as much air into your lungs as possible.  Let me know how you make out.  Feel better.
Visit my LapBand group at All_About_Me_in_NJ.  i had my LapBand on 04-30-11 and it feels like yesterday.  the time and the pounds go so fast you won't even realize it.  Good luck.  ME

Hi there; I'm 2 weeks post op, and had terrible gas and shoulder pain. I found that walking was fantastic in getting that gas to move, also for shoulder pain which was the worst at night I found that my heating pad gave great relief. Since the gas isn't actually digestive, none of the other remedies I tried really worked; I found that on day 6, things started really moving out if you know what I mean. The shoulder pain totally diminished once that gas started leaving my body. Hang in there, it's going to get better real soon. As for chest pain, I'd call my doctor just to be safe
