Thyroid Problems

Has anyone experienced thyroid problems since being banded?  My band slipped around October and I gained weight (it slipped downwards).  I gained 35+ lbs between Oct 2010 and Jan. 2011.   I could eat anything and everything with no restriction.  I tried to diet and watch what I ate, but no matter what I did, I gained weight.  I had revision surgery on Jan. 20th.  YEAH FOR ME!!!  I go in for my 1st fill today.  I lost 14-17 lbs the 1st week after surgery.  I have gradually gained all the weight back, plus some. I'm so embarrased to go to my appointment today.  I have been measuring my food for the past 2 weeks. I eat off small plates and eat 1-2 cups a food at a time. I know this is still not small enough, but compared to what I was eating before my revision surgery, I thought surely I would lose weight, but I have not, instead, I have gained even more.  I'm so confused! I had a friend mention that I might have a thyroid issue.  Could that be possible being that I've fluctated weight so much in the last couple months.  Could my body be completely out of wack?  Just curious if anyone has had any thyroid related issues since being banded.
ps - my thyroid was in the "normal" range before I had my 1st WLS surgery.

The band would not 'cause' a thyroid issue but you could certainly have one.

Don't be embarrassed at your appt today, you are going there for restriction!  If you could do this without restriction, wouldn't you have done it by now?

While you are there ask them to draw a thyroid profile WITH antibodies to check for Hashi's.  Most docs will just draw a T3 or TSH.  Tell them NO!  Insist on the full thyroid profile with antibodies.  You get a much better view of what is going on.

Nothing wrong with asking for a thyroid profile annually.  I'd venture a guess that tons and tons of people out there have thyroid issues and don't know it.  It will cost them in their senior years with arthrites and a variety of other issues that happen with long term, untreated problems.

The band may not be the issue but the actual surgery itself can cause thyroid issues.
I wholeheartdly agree with bubble get your antibodies tested. My TSH was "normal" but my antibodies were very high, and I had all the hypothyroid symptoms, and it took almost a year to find a doc who would give me synthroid. It was the best lil pill ever! Being that I have Hashi's my thyroid still flucuates, and I have had stalls with the band, but when it kicks in again I do awesome.
My best advice is have the tests, know your results, and if there is an issue but is borderline and you still have symptoms, keep trying docs until you get one who will listen and not just glance at your results and dismiss you!
