Slipped Lap Band
Yes ma'am! I had my band placed initially in 7/09, went 2 years just fine and dandy, but lost my job, and insurance, and couldn't afford to keep going back for fills, but I'd reached my goal weight so I wasn't that concerned. Well, the band slipped, and my surgery was done in Dallas, but by that time I'd moved to Orlando, and my current surgeon is one of a very few in the area doing any bariatric surgeries. He did all he could, but ended up having to remove my first band, and I gained back so much weight due to medical issues and depression eating. I finally got another job, and am happy to report that I'm now 12 days post op with my new band and I couldn't be happier!
I had a slip that warranted surgery to reposition my band. I have to tell you, through the unfill for a couple of months, then taking 8 months AFTER surgery to finally get to a good restriction, I haven't lost a pound.......I gained 40 throughout the entire process. Before my slip, I had lost 100 pounds.
If a revision to another surgery is possible, I highly reccomend taking that option. I am not sure of the exact statistics on experiencing another slip, but I am sure they aren't good. One of my dearest friends from OH and in IRL had a slip and had surgery yesterday to revise to the sleeve.
Good luck!!

Melly so sorry it has taken you so long to get good restriction this time! :-( I have actually seen severl ppl post that they did very well with restriction and weight loss with their first band......but when they got their 2nd they had little or no luck with it. I hope that now that u have good restriction things will work out well for you with your band!
Hope your friend recovers quickly!

Thanks, Maria. I got good restriction back in November, but I can't seem to lose any weight. Part of it is my fault, as I am not perfect with my eating. But, COME ON!! I do eat much less, and am good with my eating 70% of the time and I am exercising like crazy. I don't get it. Maybe I need some kind of mal-absorption now. *sigh*
I would be very frustrated too! :-( U would think since it worked as far as weight loss the 1st time that it would work the same the next time too, but unfortunately that is not always the case.
My weight has been kind of yo yo'ing back n forth in the 5 lb. range for about 2 mos. But it is at least staying under the "obese" BMI so I won't complain too much. I am kind of wondering if I will lose more now or if this is where it is going to stay?
I just got my 16th fill a wk. ago and the last 3 days has been too tight..............but then it may not stay that way. So waiting to see if I really do need a slight unfill or not.

Not forever, just a couple of weeks to see if it works? If it does you'll have to find the carb count that works for you. If that doesn't work then yeah, probably malabsorption. But I really doubt that since you lost well previously.
Don't even worry about calories, don't count fat grams. Stay satisfied all the time but just count carbs only.

I do think my body is uber sensitive to carbs. I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes at the age of 29. I really think my body goes nuts with refined carbs, and that I am truly addicted.
I did stay strict on the induction phase this past summer for about 10 days and gained 2 pounds.....so, I got VERY frustrated and went far off of the reservation for a while. I know it worked for me in the past. When I was diagnosed with diabetes, I went on Atkins, and mainly stayed on the induction phase and lost 70 pounds in about 6 months. A couple of years later I had gained it all back and my diabetes was seriously out of control by then and I needed medication to get my sugar down.
I plan on doing the 5DPT starting Monday to see if that will get me detoxed and able to stick to a very low carb diet after that. Is it possible for a metabolism to be broken??
I lost before, but it was VERY SLOW. It took me 19 months to lose 100 pounds.

The only people with dead metabolisms are dead people. ;o)
I found something that I put on my blog recently, it was really interesting. I thought I was fairly well versed in the topic but I really learned quite a bit from this. Maybe you should watch it? They are youtube videos that explain your issues. The doctor is clearly selling her services but the info she puts out is pretty interesting;
