Are you taking your vitamins? That is so important in retaining your hair

My surgeon always says in our group meetings "I can tell my patients they're going to die if they don't take their vitamins, they don't listen. If I tell them all their hair will fall out, it causes them to take the vitamins" LOL!!! Taking the vitamins may not be the only answer, make sure your protein is up to par, and of course, you can certainly seek medical advice. Hope it all works out for you.

The best person to ask this of is a dermatologist.

But I can tell you that I've been coloring my hair since well before banding, I've had hair thinning, and mine is not solely due to surgery & weight loss.. and I haven't stopped coloring mine and I don't think I'm seeing increased loss.

My dermatologist, when I consulted him about the non wls related loss, didn't mention coloring my hair.  He did say, no tight ponytails, no braids, nothing that would put a lot of traction on my scalp.  Suggested I use rogaine and could take biotin but he didn't think biotin would help much.  I still take it just in case.

If your loss is truly surgery/ weight loss related, it should start coming back soon.

Best of luck to you.

To be honest the Rogaine was a bad suggestion.  First of all you can end up growing hair in places you don't want and also any hair growth that does occur as a direct result of the Rogaine will fall out as soon as you stop taking it.

I have NOT had any hair growth in unwanted areas. Just because it can happen, doesn't mean it will.
And I've been using it for a year now.

And yes, I'm aware that you have to keep on using the Rogaine or you lose what progress you've made.

Just because you don't like the advice, doesn't mean it's bad.

I did not claim it happens in everyone, did I?

Personally I wouldn't want to risk growing hair on my ears or whiskers on my face but some are willing to take the chance.

I stand behind my post.

I got my hair dyed not long after my surgery. It's didn't hurt it. It turned out great as always (my stylist is awesome lol). What did hurt me was not taking my vitamins. At first it's hard because vitimans and medications fill you up and make you feel yucky. But you need to try to get them down for the sake of your hair and your health. Also massage your scalp. It increases blood circulation and promotes hair growth.
