Protein Shakes

I am getting ready to have surgery April 19th.  I want to start sampling different protein shakes before getting to the preop diet and for afterwards.  I do not want to be unprepared and be ready to start the diet only to discover I can't find a good shake.  What kind do you suggest using?

I like the isopure drinks (40g per bottle).  They come in different flavors, no carbs, not milk based.  There are isopure powders that you can mix with milk.  Most people like the chocolate, but that didn't sit well with me.  I also like the pureprotein canned shakes - - vanilla and strawberry.  I'm having a hard time getting all of my protein from food, so I still rely on them.  Definitely a good idea to test them out before you start.  I haven't ordered from unjury yet, but I hear good things about their shakes and their chicken soup protein.  Good luck!

my surgeon's office carries several different brands but my favorite is Chike.  They have vanilla, chocolate (my least favorite), banana, strawberry and orange.  If you go to the chike website they will send you a sample of each flavor for $6.95.

I used Unjury with milk and when I got sick of sweet milky shakes, I started using Zero carb Isopure.

Our support group meetings every month has samples of protein drinks for all of the pre ops.  Also some places might let you sample protein drinks.  I went to Muscle Max, not sure if that's only in Iowa, but they give out samples.  I actually ordered the Zero carb Isopure online through Amazon.com.  And it was like only a $1 more than buying it from GNC.  I like the Grape Frost flavor.  It's not as sweet and it comes in a 20 oz glass bottle with 40 grams of protein.  I only use them now after a fill, which has been many months ago or after a stuck episode.  ( only had 4 in 19 months) so I use them rarely now.  I get all of my protein in food.

Good luck to you,
Kristi

I got protein powder from Target-chocolate and vanilla.  The chocolate is pretty good on its own and the vanilla was really good with sugar free drink mix added.

I ordered Unjury, found it disgusting.Quickly returned. I then switched to GNC Amplified Whey 60, I love it. Strawberry is my favorite and I also like the chocolate. Cookies and Creme was an impulse buy and its good, but my least favorite. I used 2 scoops in each shake and mix with skim milk, but It can be with water each scoop is 20g of protein. Also check out theworldaccordingtoeggface.com she has amazing recipes for protein powder shakes. Using sugar free Torani syrups(the kind in coffee shops) makes your shakes even better without adding sugar or fat, yesterday I had one that taste like a girl scout cookie!!! YUM

I really like the Pure Protein brand from GNC. They come ready to drink. So far I have only tried the vanilla. There are other flavors though. I have strawberry on the way to me. I too drink the Isopure drinks. My Dr also sells a ready to drink smoothie called Extreme and they were pretty good too :0)

Tried most of them....  I like EAS sold at most stores.  I get the 5 pound bag at Sams club for $25.  Vanilla tastes good and it mixes easier than any other i have tried.  I get 52 grams of protein every morning in my 2 cups of coffee and it tastes great.  I mix 1 scoop in each cup, first add water and mix the powder, after mixed add coffee......  26 grams of protein in your vanilla flavored coffee.  I love it and it helps me get my metabolism boosted in the morning with caffeine and protein.

Weider Protein at Walmart is pretty good too.  3lb at Walmart is usually around $16.

ps...  Vanilla flavor mixes with more beverages a lot better than chocolate or strawberry.
