I start mushie/purees next week and was wondering if refried beans are ok? Thanks.

I lived on refried beans that week. I would melt some cheese on top then add some light sour cream to it , boy it was yummy :o)

It seems a lot of folks had those when they were on mushies.  I was told not to have complex carbos till later on in my food plan phases.   But as far as them going down fine, they will.
Good luck!

I did refried beans as well.  In fact, I still eat them at 7 weeks post-op.  They are one thing that seems to keep me full.  I also did cream of chicken soup (low-fat) and mashed up 1/2 of a small baked potato.  Heaven it was!  Keep up the great work!

I not only did the refried beans but also canned tuna and canned chicken which kept my protein up.  I used just a tiny bit of mayo to moisten and a bit of salt and pepper.  Those canned meats helped keep me satisfied and yet on soft food.  Beans don't have as much protein as meat.  This is a tip from our nut.

Good luck---my 2 months since surgery have resulted in releasing 50# just by eating 1/2 of food which is 3 oz protein and 1 oz fruit or veggies---5-6 times a day.

Yes, they are perfect actually.  Just use this rule of thumb...if you have to chew AT ALL, it is not mushy enough for this phase.  But even refried beans can be whizzed up to be smoother if needed. :)

I used nonfat refried beans.
