Does getting a fill hurt???
I have not had a fill yet since my surgery so I cant speak from experience , but my friend goes to the same doc as me just had a fill and she said no .
My doc does numbing first so she said the the only thing she felt was the sting of the first shot like a sweat bee sting and then nothing afterwards :o)

My port is also on the left. Never had any numbing done, it's just a little poke and doesn't hurt, when I get a fill.
Hi there,
The knot is probably your port. Mine is on the left side, about an inch off center, and about an inch above my waist.
I don't get numbed up for fills, and don't find them painful at all. It's less painful than a shot or to have blood drawn. But, it is kind of a weird sensation, when you're not used to it. In order to get the needle through the surface of the port, they have to go in with a bit of force, so to me, it's more like a thump than a piercing sensation. Even more strange is the feeling when she's pulling the needle out, because for a fraction of a second or so, the port sort of lifts with the needle before the needle slips out. Again, it's not painful, just not something we're used to!

I've only had one fill, but it was pretty uncomfortable. I admit I don't have the highest tolerance for pain, but it hurt. My port area is still pretty tender in general, so the poking around to find it for the fill just made that worse. I didn't look since everyone has said the needle is pretty big. Hopefully your experience will be more like the others who have responded!

I got my first fil a week and a half ago. I'm not a needle person so I was scared. But it wasn't bad. It wasn't pain but more of a discomfort. Nowhere near as bad as I thought. Now that I know what to expect I'm not nervous about my next one.
