So far that has worked for me , my body dont get use to a certain amount of calories and I can lose about 1.5 to 2 pounds per week doing that
Hope that helps you out :o)

Hi Kim!
Because on here at OH I saw that so many folks were concerned about calories, I asked at my bariatric center if I had to count calories. I was told that if I eat WHAT I am suppose to eat in the AMOUNTS I am suppose to eat that I did not have to be concerned with the calorie count.
It sure makes sense to me. If I eat what I have been told, which is 1/3 C protein with 1/4C of veggie or fruit at each meal, a snack of greek yogurt w/ fruit and 2 glasses of milk, I will be where I need to be. Sure makes it a lot easier than having to count every bite. So that is what I do but I'm sure you'll get others with a different approach. I was also told that your protein grams are decided by your height so for me I can have between 68-85 grams a day. I get that now without any protein shakes. Also, your food should be weighed by volumn NOT by weight. My 1/3 C
of protein is 21 grams of protein and by weight that same 1/3Cup weighs out to be about 1.5 Ounces!!! Not a lot of food for sure! I wish you the best.
Lyn.

I agree with most of what you said, but I don't understand this, "My 1/3 C of protein is 21 grams of protein and by weight that same 1/3Cup weighs out to be about 1.5 Ounces!!! "
That didn't sound quite right to me, and I double checked online, and what I found was that an ounce of chicken has 7g protein, so your 1.5 oz. is more like 10-11g. I'm not sure how many ounces of lean protein fits in 1/3 cup, but if you've measured it to be 1.5 oz, then you may not be getting as much protein as you think.

Lyn,
I do have to agree with Tami on that you are only suppose to eat 1/3 cup of protein per meal ?? My gosh that is not alot of protein at all you are eating alot less then me on how I measure.
1/2 cup of protein usually equals about 3-4 oz of protein which is about 20-25 grams of protein .
4 oz of chicken is about 26 grams of protein and that is 1/2 cup . I dont see how you are getting that much protein in just 1/3 cup of protein .
If I only was allowed to eat 1/3 cup of protein per meal I would be hungry every hr Im sorry that just dont sound like enough food for anybody to live on .

I know what you are saying. It's a little confusing to me also. I agree that the 1 ounce = 7 grams.
But I was told that the ounces are measured by VOLUMN, not by weight. Our pouches are designed to hold volumn not weight. There IS a difference. Believe me, I do kinda cram my meat into my 1/3 C, more so than what I did in the beginning. lol I will try weighing it again and see if there is that much of a difference still. I may not have been getting enough into that measuring cup. I bet though if you take 3oz of chicken weighed on your scale and then cut it up tiny, you will NOT get it all in that measuring cup. Believe me, I am not trying to argue this point.
I am just doing what I have been told and I go to a Center for Excellence in bariatric surgery. If I can't count on them for the correct information I am in big trouble!!
I am about ready to have my lunch and I am going to weigh my 1/3 cup again. Will get back to you!! lol

You are right Volume is more important then weight that is how my doc goes by it to. Our pouches if the doc does it right is designed to hold a cup of food at every meal and our snacks if we snack.
So, I take my 4 oz of chicken cut it up like how i would eat it that equals a 1/2 cup of food , then 1/4 cup of veggies and then 1/4 cup of carbs. But I dont cut up my meat so tiny that all Ihave to do is take one bite and can swallow though.
I just dont see how you are getting enough food to live on with only 1/3 cup of protein and 1/4 cup of veggies. That just isnt alot at all.
Gosh I dont know how you have went three months and just now got your fill I applaud you for that because with that amount of food I would have been in there begging for one at six weeks lol.

So from what I am reading is:
1) 1/2 cup protein
2) 1/4 cup veggies
3) 1/4 cup carb
3 times a day plus a healthy snack or 2.
water (lots) and exercise....
If I stick with this I should do o.k.
I see the nutritionist on the 4th and my first fill on the 8th.
Now I know what to do and what to talk about when I go to my appointments.
Thanks, Thanks, Thanks
