Just got banded last week... Will spicy foods be a problem in the future???

I have been banded 3+ years.  Spicy foods never bothered me, but definitely slowed me down.  I think everyone is different. Obviously, if something is super spicy, you'll have to suffer without anything to drink.  I would just see what happens the 1st time. Be sure it's been about a month or so before you give it a try though.

I don't know about other bandsters but since my surgery, my tastebuds have come alive! The spicier the better and now that my hiatal hernia has been repaired, I get no acid reflux at all! My food taste so much better and I've learned to appreciate tastes and textures I never liked before. It's the strangest thing. It kind of reminds me of when I quit smoking.

Jenn,

I got banded  1/21/11 and I told my Husbannd that thing taste different but good different.  Even my protien tasted different,  one of my favorite is my least favorite now I thought it was me.  So glad to hear it happens to someone else also.

You're so right Jenny!  Since I have had my band, I relish my meals and am very picky about what I eat.  I enjoy meals more and really taste the food...I had the hiatal hernia repair with surgery too...reflux isn't entirely gone, but am only taking the meds about 2 x per week at half dose vs every day at the full dose.

The biggest problem with Spicy Foods is...
 (ok well for me)
Is not being able to DRINK with the meal.  My mouth is tingling and I'm craving a drink!  I compromise (because it's only a few times a month) and suck on a small ice cube until the desire to drink passes.
