Too Much Protein At Once

So recently I changed my protein powder to GNC performance AMP from the Unjury Flavors which I found repulsive. I have the tub and a few of the of the single serve packet. So yesterday after I poured most of the packet in my blender bottle I realized each packet is 3 scoop equaling 60grams of protein. So I ended up drinking 2 scoops in one shake. After that I didnt feel the need to eat anything else for the rest of the day and that was at 2:30. So this morning I decided to do the same thing 2 scoops of GNC AMP and 12oz of fatfree milk. Now I am stuffed I mean stuffed! I feel like I have had thanksgiving dinner with an extra side of baked mac and cheese and some collards. LOL im wondering is this the point where i wanna be? what do you guys feel, oh yea and I am three weeks postop
Cant wait to meet the "New Me"

I am only at seven weeks, but as long as you are on liquids only, I don't see a problem with what you did. I would be sure to drink my water though.

i also hated the Unjury flavors.  I like Solga brand of protein. I ordered it from Amazon.

I used the exact same shake and like you, I used only 2 scoops in a shake.  I did only add 8 ounces of milk to mine but that makes it even thicker.  But I had the same result as you did, I would be full for literally up to 6 hours at a time.  So as I'm now weaning myself off of the protein shakes (so many chemicals!  yikes!) I find myself getting hungry sooner and it freaked me out to be hungry after 3 or 4 hours.  But actually, that's fine.  That's normal.

I think what you are doing now is fine at 3 weeks post-op but I would maybe consider backing down to one scoop per shake in the next couple of weeks and try to get more of your protein from actual food as you transition back to eating solid foods.

Good luck!

From what I understand, your body can only use a certain amount of protein at one time.  Like 30 grams, or there abouts.  So any extra protein that you have is just stored and is extra calories.

Since you are on liquids I guess this is okay, as you aren't getting very many calories anyway.  But for the future think about the extra calories and protein.

Yeppers.... I was glad to have found that out before I had surgery.  I always keep it in the back of my mind.

So when I am trying to be good and get in all the protein, I have to really track what I'm eating and drinking so I don't end up taking in extra stuff that will just be stored...

I think it is around 30 grams of protein at once...space out the time between protein intake several hours  - like Break, Lunch, Dinner, etc.

Here is some info from MSNBC that I found...

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/14563169/ns/today-today_health/

How much protein do you need for good health?
As a general rule, between 10 percent and 15 percent of your total calories should come from protein. So, if you consume 2,000 calories per day, at least 200 should come from protein, or about 50 grams. You should try to eat around one gram of protein per one kilogram of body weight, or around 0.4 grams per pound. An easier way to figure this out in your head is to take your weight, divide it in half, and subtract 10. The total will be the number of grams of protein you should consume each day. So, if you weigh 120 pounds, you should eat about 50 grams of protein.

Can you get too much protein?
Not really. The only danger is if you have liver or kidney disease. That’s because these organs are your body’s “workhorsesÂ" that metabolize protein. So, if you have kidney or liver disease, such as cirrhosis or fatty liver, talk to your doctor.
