Gastric bypass better than Lap-Band, study says
Why did you not include the following paragraph from the same article?
But Khalili, whose practice is roughly split between Lap-Band and gastric-bypass surgery, added that the UC San Francisco findings are far less clear for patients whose primary objective is to lose weight. Although more weight loss was seen for the gastric bypass group in the one-year study, patients getting the Lap-Band continue to lose weight for two to three years after the procedure, Khalili said.
Comparing the two patient populations three years after surgery would probably have narrowed the weight-loss gap considerably, Khalili said.
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
I'm unclear as to why this post is even being put in this forum. Don't all the other surgeries have their own forums? Where is the moderator to say "incorrect venue for this post"? I'm new here so I'm not sure what the etiquette for cross posting irrelevant info is, but seems like a mod should delete this post.

I was not foolishly ENTICED by RAPID WEIGHT LOSS to risk LIFE LONG Hypoglycemic spells and dumping and fainting on REAL FOOD FOREVER, risk LIFE LONG hospitalizations of bowel obstructions, hernias and other horrific problems, EVERYONE is NOT desperate for quick weight loss.
Getting to goal with RNY OR DS at what cost though...carries a life long risk of selling your soul to the devil.
Losing 130 pounds by just walking and getting fills and getting NEAR goal was good enough for ME, wearing a size 10/12 for the last 5 years with no complications and living a NORMAL life, eating at resturants, dating several hunks after weight loss, parting, having a dream wedding, traveling, exercising, and working and NO hospitizations due to my band or my life being horribly disrrupted is PRICELESS.
Complications with the band is VERY MINOR compared to complications with DS or RNY, who are they trying to fool

All these percentages are based on 1 year's worth. As we all know, Lap-Band is slower in the beginning because we all have to be filled to make the band work properly. A better study would be 2 years worth. The lap-band gets such harsh criticism because it's not a quick fix like RNY or all these other WLS. So, the band takes a little time. We didn't gain weight overnight. If we weren't given the options of modern science to even have WLS, we'd all be in the same boat of diets after diets and as we all know - slow weight loss. I myself am happy for slower weight loss. I WANT my skin to retract at a natural pace. I'm not saying Lap-Band is for everyone, but it has gotten a bad rap because it was careless used in the very beginning when we were not as educated as we are now, at least I wasn't.
I know that all newbies should research all their surgery options before committing to one particular surgery. I have been doing just that for two years. I always flip between the LapBand, DS, and VSG boards to read the comments on the pros and cons of the surgery. I have read all information on the three surgeries. I have chosen to go with the LapBand. I am comfortable and happy with my decision. I understand that things could go wrong. I am ready to deal with that day if and when it comes. It ALWAYS seems there is people coming over from the other boards bashing the band constantly. I do not understand. I NEVER see band people going over to the other sites bashing their weight loss surgeries. I could be wrong. I have only been on the boards for a year. I could post bad things, from what I have seen from people close to me, on all three surgeries. However, I think that all people who consider WLS look at all the bad and good things about all the surgeries. I think that it is time that all the "outsiders" stay on their own boards. IIt is a real turn off to get on here and see it. I come on here to read peoples good and bad things. I could care less about how they compare over time. RNY and the LapBand are two COMPLETELY different surgeries. Should they really even be compared? We are grown adults and can make our own decisions, so let us do just that. Do not question or downgrade our decisions because we are doing what is right for US. I could get the DS and have awful smelling gas and sit on the pot pooing for 20 minutes a day, but I do not want that. I want the band and I feel others should stay on their own boards and RESPECT other peoples decisions.
