Dec.14,2010 was my surgery date with Dr.Ferzli.I have gone to Lutheran Hospital to have my suregry done and everything was great, but when i woke up from anestesia i was told by my Doctor I'm sorry, but your liver is too large and nothing could be done.Maybe we should try next time to have a Gastric Bypass.I could not understand why this happened to me.I kept my diet and lost 8 pounds, unfortunatelly that was all i was able to loose i din't cheat. All obese people have enlarged liver, but what happened to me i dont understand.I went to another doctor at
NYU hospital Dr.Fielding and i had my surgery on 2/18/11 if my liver was so large why did the
surgery take less than 1 hour?I went in to the operating room at 10:15am and at 10:55am my
Doctor came out and told my husband that everything went extremely well. That's all i want to know is why Dr.Ferzli put me through hell?
Thank God for Dr.Fielding he is the greatest

It almost sounds like he wanted to give you the RNY and this was his way of doing it. Or maybe he's just not as good a surgeon as the other one. You are right all obese people have enlarged livers and people as big as 400-500 lbs have had bands so there really isn't a good reason for him to have put you thru that. I guess just be thankful that you were able to find a good surgeon in place of him. Hope the rest of your journey goes well.

Lap Band on 02/17/11 with
Dr. Ferzli did my band as well. He and his team are by far one of the best in the business and he is world renowned for his bariatric expertise....

Dr. Fielding is also one of the best bariatric surgeons as well. He did practically invent the lapband.  So with either surgeon you were in the best of care.

The expertise numbers on this sight are VERY misleading.... It says here that Dr Ferzli has 300 lapband surgeries. Just out of curiosity I asked the nurse how many of bands Dr Ferzli has done and she said that they get AT LEAST 1-3 per day. The math doesnt add up.

I lost 22 lbs pre op in fear of the liver problem. My wifes girlfriend had the surgery from Dr. Fielding and had the problem with the liver as well. She had to go back 3 months later
I was told by Dr. Ferzli that he used to have CT scans to ensure the size of the liver, but ins has stopped covering it. Now he doesnt know until he actually goes in.

Its his job to abort a surgery if he foresees a complication. Would you rather have a doctor who takes shortcuts just to make a penny at your expense?? Its your life and your body that we're talking about... Not a car or something materialistic that can be returned or exchanged if needed.

Good luck with the surgery!!  Hope you have a great journey

My doc told me the day I went and saw him for the first time and then again the day of the surgery and I had to sign papers .

he said if he feels like he can not put the band in the right place or do the surgery in a safe manner he will not put the lapband on me.

That is fine with me , I would rather have it done right then go ahead slap it on me then months down the line I have problems or have to have it taken out because he didnt do it correctly .

I had my surgery at Lutheran on December 15, 2010 by Dr. Ferzli, and he had mentioned to me that he couldn't complete a surgery the day before ( letting me know once again that if my liver was enlarged he would not compromise my life by doing the bypass surgery- so no, he wasn't trying to reel you into the bypass-it is how he does all his surgeries. The alternative would have been to risk your life and I don't think either one of you would have been happy with that outcome. I worried and feared that my liver would be enlarged- I didn't have two full weeks of the diet before surgery, but fortunately my liver was ok. I thought about how terribly disappointed I would be if I went through all the steps, he started the operation and then closed without finishing. I could only imagine your disappointment. But at least you lived to be disappointed. Ultimately, you got your surgery-albeit from another surgeon, but I am sure on that day of surgery your liver was in proper condition. I had other issues after my surgery-when Ferzli had already left the country and I was at the mercy of Lutheran and Ferzli's partner. That's a whole other story!!! Glad to know that you were able to have your surgery and that you are doing well!

Lap Band on 11/16/10 with
Dr. Ferzli did my surgery as well. I just loved him and his staff. He even gave me his cell phone number when I was released in case of any problems.

You will find pros and cons for any surgeon (just like any surgery).

All I can say is that I'm glad your surgery was successful and wish you the best on your weight loss journey!
