You're right.  Everyone has to find their own way.  For me, I chose to give up processed foods and most "white carbs".  That worked for me, but is certainly not the only way to go.  However, if what someone is doing is *not* working (the OP said her weight loss has slowed down "tremendously"), then it might be a good idea to see what can be changed.

I do agree with that   If I was her I would sit back and see how often I am eating them foods if its every week or more then that then I would start cutting it back and see what happens then .

If I ate them foods every week then I would probably stall out also and I really have to becareful because I know me if I would start eating them foods every week or every other day then I would slide back into my old habits big time that is why I really have to limit myself on  how often I eat them foods .

It's hard esepcially that time of the month when you are craving them foods   I think that is was part of my major melt down I had this weekend with food TOM coming up yuck and I have to weight in next Monday at the docs to  I retain so much water I can gain anywhere from 5-8 pounds and it will stay on there for a good two weeks *sigh*

 Hi Tami,
I do limit the white carbs, although I'm a sushi roll lover, and do get them weekly, so rice is ok....
I have definitely cut down on those carbs which just turn into fat.....or get stored as fat....
creating a deficit causing breakdown of fat....which is the result I want...thanks again

LOL, Sushi!  How I love it!  And it's heathy!  Unfortunately, my band does not love it.  I've never been so stuck as I was once from sushi roll.  Sticky rice and seaweed wrap just don't work for me.  Well, maybe they will now that I'm unfilled. I may have to try some, and enjoy while I can!  Fresh Market even has some made with brown rice.

I have had my band for over a year and I used to be able to eat ANYTHING.  That is no longer the case.  I have 10.1 cc in a 14 cc band and I cannot eat untoasted bread, too much rice or pasta and vertically no traditional breakfast foods (eggs and cereal) in the morning.

My cousin had her lap band in two weeks before me and she has a smaller band with less fluid in it and cannot eat the above foods either.  I read many posters who cannot eat most of the above foods after some time because they tend to expand in volume as you eat it or shortly afterwards and people tend to get stuck for this reason.

Sometimes it is not about portion control, it is what the band will tolerate.

I am just over two years with the band and have a happy restriction level, although not what I would call the sweet spot.  There's very little I can't eat - I have trouble with eggs and for the most part stay away from those - but there are some foods I choose not to eat.  I haven't had a french fry since before I was banded.  But, I have trouble eating any food in the morning.  I start each day with a homemade latte or mocha with skim milk and usually by 10 I can eat either some yogurt with fruit cut up in it or some oatmeal made with skim milk and a spoonful of peanut butter.

I subscribe to the philosphy that just because I'm banded, it doesn't mean I can't eat like a normal person.  There's nothing I consider illegal, but many foods I choose to eat only occasionally.  For me it's all about moderation.  Especially now since I rejoined WW.  I'm eating alot more fruit than I did the first few years and I feel so much better.  And I'm losing weight again.

Also, as others have noted, we do not dump like those with a bypass.  Sometimes I wish we did, lol, since sweets are a problem for me.

Also, it's normal not to feel any kind of restriction for 3-5 fills so at this point  it's almost like you don't have a band.   You have to be patient and watch what you eat until you begin feeling some restriction and the band begins making itself known to you.  I have never been a food weigher/tracker, and to be honest I can't remember what I did those first six months.  I know I was losing weight, so I was cutting back, but I lost slower than most so I obviously wasn't cutting back as much as many do.

Just follow your doctor's rules for eathing and you'll do great.

Band patients do not malabsorb, so we don't have 'dumping syndrome'.

At your stage, I had no idea if I could eat pizza, bread, pasta, rice -- because I did not try to eat them.

I was told to eat lean/solid protein and produce at my meals.

Are you journaling your food and showing it to your nutritionist?  Are they ok with your food choices?

the more fill you get, the more likely those foods are to cause you big problems.
Please make sure you discuss this thoroughly wiht your doctor today.

yes I have discussed my food choices and journal each day with my nuttritionist.
I leave her my meals every day on facebook, her inbox....she comments and gives suggestions.....
The doctor told me that I will have more restriction after 5-7 fills.
I'm only on the 2nd fill which i received today.
Already feeling tight which is a good thing.
Thanks for sharing!
