Looking for ideas that will represent my weight loss journey and how far I have come.

Thank you

When I reached goal, I got a tiny shamrock on my inner wrist.  It signified to me how lucky I am to have the opportunity to change my life with weight loss.  Then, a year ago I followed that up with the Japanese symbol for "Good Fortune" on my shoulder (my avatar).

I've heard of some people getting a butterfly, to signify transformation.

Whatever you get, make it personal to you.

I wouldn't know where to begin. I have 13 (14?) tats and each one is so personal to me and/or something in my life that they may not relate to you and yours.

Here's a link to my OH photo album of tats:

I personally grew up in a home filled with artist so tattoos are beautiful pieces of art in my eyes. However, it is a permanent art piece worn for life unless you have the money and patience for laser removal. Being that it is there for life, you might to have to explain to others what it means to you when people ask you about it. Don't get me wrong here....I am very proud to have a new healthy life and I'm open about my choice to have lap-band. However, I also struggle with not wanting the weight loss to define me too. There are times, I like to close that chapter and focus on the chapter I'm living in now. Yes, it is part of me and will forever be. It is also a huge accomplishment, but I think we go through many stages through out our journey and sometimes you want to move on and not have it linger as much. Maybe, it's the mom in me, but it is so permanent. I'm wondering if you could do something similar to what Tami did and just put something there that would represent "new or grate-fullness" that way it could be a reminder, but it could also have a boarder meaning to you, if you felt different about wanting to close that chapter. I hope I'm making sense here and not offending anyone. Again, I have seen some beautiful pieces of work, but then again we all know people *****gret their tattoo as well as their life changes. Just a thought! Best wishes!!

I got my tattoo the day I was approved for surgery.  I have a butterly with a dashed line trailing in to show it taking off.  I have it on the upper part of my chest (so it can be covered by a shirt strap), but so I can see it each time I look in the mirror.  The butterfly reminds me to take this new gift and fly with my new life.

I've thought about getting a tattoo with two ribbons (pink for breast cancer and teal for ovarian cancer) that form into a heart with the date of my surgery in the middle of the heart.  I'm just not sure where I would get it or if I'm brave enough... not sure about the whole pain thing.

I actually got a similar tattoo when I got down to Onederland as a reward for myself.  It is an antique looking key, with the word "Believe" written on it.

I absolutely love it.  It is my daily reminder that "I" hold the key to my own happiness.  It is always with me, literally.  I no longer need to look to other people or food to find meaning in my life.

Whatever it is, make sure it is personally meaningful to you.  Butterflies are a great symbol of transformation.  So are dragonflies, and lotus flowers.

Edited to add: Can anyone tell me how to add a picture to my post so I can show it to you??

You can't go back and make a brand new start, but you can start from now and make a brand new end.
