Just Banded and new to OH!
Hi Everyone!! I was just banded on 2/14/2011 so tomorrow will be one week. While under, my surgeon found and repaired a hiatal hernia as well. I'm on the protein shake and clear liquid diet for another week still but I am having a hard time still getting enough protein for each day. Has anyone else had similiar problems? I am still very sore right underneath the breastbone, but am doing much better each day...
Don't worry! In fact, look back just a few threads and you will find another newbie asking exactly the same question! Our bodies can survive perfectly well without enough protein for week or so! Just let your body heal, drink as much of your protein as is comfortable and worry about exact amounts later!
The only thing you must not take in too little of is fluid! So make sure you get in a good 64oz of liquid a day. Kate
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Sip on one of these http://theisopurecompany.com/ throughout the day... They taste pretty damn good. Ill drink half a bottle in the morning after breakfast. Then the other half after lunch. You should get your needed 70g in combination with the stuff your eating/drinking.
Protein is VERY important. No you dont need it to survive but it is crucial in muscle repair. (Which you Dr just cut through to do your surgery)
Good luck

I am just banded too 2/17/11. I am wondering how you can get any of your protein shake down? I can't get down more than a few sips of anything. I have had a really hard time and have been waking up with regurgitation and the feeling that the liquid I do get down is drowning me. I have horrible explosive diarrhea and feel like I can't swallow very good, like there is a baseball in my throat. Does anyone else feel these things? Will this go away? I can't get my doctor's office to answer my phone call and I am getting anxious...feeling like I made a big mistake.

You may have a lot more swelling than normal or you could be having a complication. You definitely need to talk to your surgeon.

Thanks everyone!! I am definitely feeling better and will definitely check out those suggested drinks!! I tried the Creamy Vanilla Isopure powder before the surgery to fulfill my protein shake diet before-hand and it was absolutely HORRIBLE so I was afraid to try any other product of theirs, but I am very open to suggestions and I THANK YOU!
for the person who was also recently banded and having some trouble, I know I am still having trouble with liquids but I am keeping them down and have not had any nausea or diarhhea whatsoever. If you cannot contact your surgeon at all, it is IMPERITIVE to go to the ER, but please do not regret your banding!!! We did this to change our lives and better ourselves. Its not fun what you are going through, but you can get through this!! If you are unable to keep any liquids down and/or continuously have diarrhea, or are concerned AT ALL it would be my best advice to tell you to go to the ER, and if anything they can check and make sure everything is ok, and at least give u some fluids if you are still unable to keep them down on your own. I hope everything goes well and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.....
on a lighter note, thank you to the others that have responded!! such a great help!!

Welcome. Congrats on your surgery. I had trouble getting all of my protein in also. I used Any Whey protein powder and added it to my liquids. But there were days when I didn't get all of my protein in. I was told to do the best I could and that's what I did.
