Questions/Concerns..........

Hello everyone. I was banded on the 17th. Everything went great and I was sent home the next day. I slept most of the day I was released. Yesterday I did really well with getting in my protein and water but today not so much. I have noticed that everyone's plan is different.

I'm to stay on a high protein liquid diet for 4 weeks! I'm to get in 60 to 100 grams of protein per day.The plan is to drink 3 to 4oz of protein every hour while sipping at least 4 to 6oz of water in between the protein. Today I have about 30 grams of protein in and roughly 30oz of water and I feel as if I ate a full course meal. I feel like I'm going to expload. Is this normal?

I really want to be sure I can get in what I need to. I worry about losing hair due to not enough protein, or getting dehydrated etc.

It's already after 6pm here and I don't see me getting in what I need before bed considering time doesn't stop and the fact I'm only suppose to drink the amounts I posted above. Help.......

Thanks!

Well it's been a long time for me, but I was on a similar program.  I think in took me over a week before I could follow the plan.  Do the best you can.  Call the docs office if you have any concerns.  Be good to yourself.

I honestly don't mean this in a condescending way *at all*, but...relax.  It's really not that big of a deal if you don't get in your recommended grams of this or that (including protein) each and every day.  Maybe you'll get in more tomorrow.  Your nutritional needs aren't determined on a day-to-day basis, but over time. Keep sipping tha****er, though.

Whether or not you shed some hair may or may not be because of how much protein you have eaten.  It may be because of the anesthesia during surgery, or the hormonal changes caused by the drastic change in diet and/or weight loss.  Again, no big deal. It doesn't always happen, but if you do lose hair, you'll probably also notice a ton of little baby hairs coming in right behind them to take their place.

I didn't have that long on a liquid diet, but it makes me think of friends of mine who've been on liquid protein diets for extended periods of time.  Let me tell you, they lost a LOT of weight!!  Unfortunately, once they started eating food again, the weight came back.  In your case, you have a another plan in place...the Band.

Hang in there, You are doing good . Take one day at a time. do your best to get as much in as your doctor recomends you may not be able to get it all in some days but thats ok keep trying it will get easier. I had some hair loss even with getting my protien in (I have thin hair to begin with) so I was a little worried but it wasnt to bad. You will stay hydrated if you are drinking  try not to worry.

Lapband - Jan 2009 weight goal reached with lapband. Revised to VSG- 1/25/16

gosh that is alot of protein to get in just getting out surgery . I only had to get in 40 grams of protein for the first three weeks then I was I was given the go ahead to go up to 60 plus .

As far as losing your hair I'm three months post op and I havent lost any of my hair or if I have its been so small that I havent even noticed it lol.

Everybody is different from hair loss.

Just get in what you can I never got all mine in either the first three weeks.  And when you get more further out there will be days you might not even get in 60 grams of protein I do that also.

I have a bad habit of skipping meals *sigh* and my doc got onto me about that at my last appt I was really really bad about it before the lapband I was hoping the lapband might help me stop from doing that , but it hasnt lol.

Dont panic try to relax .

Your doing better than I am I was the day before you and I can't get hardly any protein down. It all causes me to choke if it doesn't get better I have to see my surgeon.

Sorry to hear that. I hope that you are doing a bit better. If you did end up seeing your surgeon what did he or she have to say?

Relax.  My nutritionist said that they know you are not going to get all that protien in in the beginning.  This is a goal, all though a high goal for immediate post op.  Just do the best you can.  Sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk.  You are not going to lose your hair if for a couple of weeks you don't get all your protien in.  Once the swelling goes out of your stomach you will be wide open and feel like you can eat and drink anything.

Of course follow your diet recommended when the swelling goes down.

Thank you to each and everyone of you that answered me. I don't take anything personal. I just want to be sure what I am going through is "normal". I now see that it is and I am ok with that. I have been better with the amount of protein that I consume daily and I am feeling better. Seems like I gave been doing this liquid diet for weeks, sadly it's only been 5 days since surgery lol.

Again thank you all!!
