Support Group/ Nutritionist Told Not To Say ...............Long
What does she think you are support to eat, protein bars and baked chicken? She seems out of touch as to what post ops eat and trying to censor someone who is more than a few years out is crazy. I would have a private chat with her and asked her what's behind the food censorship for post ops. I would think that she would like to be able to tell new people that there are a world of positive food choices and knowing how to make them.
I've been in several doctor's offices and hospital situations and I've yet to see a) overweight nutritionists or b) nutritionists who've had WLS. Maybe she thinks she's "protecting" the pre-ops, but she's way off base here. Does the surgeon or psychologist know her stance on off-limit topics? I think I'd make this an issue to be discussed. It's your support group, too.
I would bring the whole thing out in the open by reminding everyone what you had brought up the last time about the fish and chips and let it be known that is NOT what you did newly banded.
I'm sure you ate healthy things 90% of the time while you lost your 80 lbs. Remind everyone that you are 6 yrs out and that you don't eat that way a lot of the time. I can see the nut not wanting new post-ops to think they can eat that way but your comment could have opened a door to discussion instead of you being shut down. Definitely keep going!! Others need you there. Congrats on doing so well and keeping the weight in check. That's a HUGE accomplishment! That leader is not helping anyone by pretending things don't happen.
My support group leader told us of a person who brought some pizza into the support group to eat as it was her dinner!!! When she was called out on it that person said if others had a problem with her eating pizza at group that it was their problem not hers!!!! Now THAT is a bit much!!!!

Hi,
I would be pissed. If ya got up and said everyday I pollute my body with crap and stuff my face til I throw up that would be one thing, but to say once in a while I like to have fish and chips but I limit my intake of those foods would be a perfectly sensible thing to say.
However, when I had a band, it never ceased to amaze me how many early post ops wanted to violate their NUT rules early on and eat and drink whatever they wanted as early as a month post op. Thats the reason EWL varies so much with purely restrictive procedures.

I really love my doc but my NUT got on my nerves the last time I went in to see them .
I haven't had a fill yet , I feel for me its not necessary so I have skipped them and my doc has agreed.
Well, my NUT asked what I was eating and I told her bread for a cheeseburger (low carb ) or I can eat toast . I can eat any kind of bread without troubles I'm just lucky I can and I do chew well.
She said well you need a fill if you can eat them kind of things !!!! I told her absolutely NOT !! If I feel like I dont need a fill I dont care what the docs say I dont care what the NUT say I'm not going to get one I know my body and what it feels like.
Anyhoo, I told her straight out I didn't get the band so I couldn't eat this or I couldn't eat that . That is NOT what the band is designed for , its to help with portion control that is it .
I told her what makes the difference if I can eat them foods am I not losing 1-2 pounds per week and she said you are one of the best patients we have and the doc has told me that to. So what makes the difference then ??
Sometimes these Doc' and NUT get on these high horses and well we are the ones that know our body and what we cant and can eat.
I see nothing wrong with eating fish and chips I have had some since my surgery . Is it deep fried yes, but eating that once in awhile isn't going to kill you and it sure isn't going to put weight on you from eating it once in awhile.
People in support group meetings need to know them things especially since you are successful Evil.
I tell my support group what I eat and I get hushed or a evil look sometimes also but that is reality so they need to get use to it lol.

Big group hug for all of you. I am a very thick skinned person. So it takes a lot to get to me, and this did. Thanks everyone. Most likely I will take her aside and use some of your wonderful insights to tell her what the meaning of "support group discussion" is.
Hey I went to a support group/ intro meeting and the nurse/man in charge was seriously trying to talk people out of the band. Into (RNY). Well I didn't want my guts cut out. I've been wanting the band for about 5 years. I attended several consultations in the past 5 years. No other programs were like this. They also wanted me to see a personal trainer and pay for it out of my pocket. I said racketeering people. this is politics at its best. I hate when the Med community and insurance companies want to rape you instead of help you. I know its a business and that's how they make money but come on.
