Stuck, sliming, etc.....
I'm having surgery on Wednesday and I have a few questions and was hoping you "pros" could help me. I've seen several posts on being stuck and I think I have an understanding of what that is but, sliming?? I'm lost. Can someone please explain?
Also, I have a lot of weight to lose. I would eventually like to lose 150 lbs. For those of you that have lost a lot of weight, how is the excess skin? My surgeon says while there will be some excess skin it is not as dramatic in the AGB procedure since the weight loss is much slower than other WLS. Of course, he said exercise was key as well.

"Sliming" is when you are stuck, food is just not going through the stoma, so the body reacts by producing lots of saliva. I assume it's purpose is to help move food along. Unfortunately, it's often the reverse. If you swallow that saliva, and you're already stuck, it just adds more volume to deal with, and you'll probably PB. I've found that when I get that feeling, I have to quickly go somewhere private so I can spit out the excess saliva. If I spit it out, usually the stuck feeling passes in a few minutes.
I lost 120 lbs., and definitely had more skin leftover than I'd like! But, your experience will depend on your own specifics...age, how you carry your weight, how long you've carried the excess, your skin type (genetics), skin damage, etc. It really just...depends. But, regardless, excess skin is way more healthy than excess fat. Exercise does help to tone, and maybe fill up that excess skin with muscle vs. fat.
