370 obs. doc says too obese for Lap-Band?
Hello
I was 354 lbs. and so far I have lost 130 lbs. Here's my point of view...Lap Band can be successful at most weights...IF you are willing to work. Now everyone says they are willing to work for it...until they find out how much work it is (this is what happened to me at first). I think I was willing to work for it but I wasn't prepared for how much work it would be. It hasn't been easy for me. I watch what I eat (even though I want it...the Band doesn't help that)...so I still count calories and carbs. I exercise 90 minutes a day, 6 days a week. This is how I have achieved what I have achieved. Everyone is different...this is my experience.
As long as you realize that the Band isn't magic and won't lose the weight for you. This is not automatic. Of all the WLSs out there this one requires the most work. You have fills you need to get. You have no help at first...until you get good restriction. You have to be prepared to work hard for this.
Also, I have to say if your doctor is dead set against you getting the Band he isn't the doctor for you. You need a doctor that will be behind you 100%. You will need to see this doctor every month for fills and check ups. If you doctor is against it he might not be understanding and supportive.
Good Luck!!

Like the other poster said make sure you have a doc that is 110% behind you on this because he will be your best friend for the first yr after surgery so you want somebody can you can talk to , and share what is going on with you without being scared you are going to get yelled at or talked down to .
I love my doc he does lapbands only and Im glad I picked him
Of course your doctor would band you at 419. He's do surgery on his own dead mother if there was money in it. He's got to be one of the biggest bariatric butchers around.
Is he still selling collagen pills to create less excess skin? Is he still selling the pre op liquid diet he requires you to drink? Did he ever get his hospital privileges back from Almater hospital in Mexico after they were revoked? After his 'Chief of Bariatrics" at his current hospital was revoked, did he ever get that back?
It should be medical malpractice to band someone at 419#. And in Canada, it basically is.
The band got me to goal, the sleeve will keep me there.
