In the pits of dispair...

First got the lapband in 2006 and lost about 120 pounds in three years...until my band slipped resulting in illness and weight gain.

Had a revision in 2009 and since then, didn't lose even 1 single pound, in fact, I gained...and gained. Which brings me to my current state.

I have gained back 50 pounds. I now weight 209 pounds. I had an endoscopy today because of recent pains and an infection...and the results are in: band errosion. I was told I have a hole in my stomach which is currently 1 centimeter long and causing gastic juices to leak (hence the pain and infection).

I recently got married, and although he is the most supportive man in the world, I have gained 50 pounds since meeting him and feel absolutly terrible. I don't know what to do. I am assuming band will have to come out, and I am thinking to go with the gastic sleeve...if my insurance will approve.

I am in the pits of dispair.

I hope things get better for you! I'm sure your new hubby loves you, no matter what, 209 is not that big, to me. I started out almost at 275, though. I hope you can get the sleeve and you feel better. Good luck!

Thank you. I started out at 290 pounds when I first got the band, so I know how big I can get...and it feels like I am gaining a pound a day. I'm totally out of control and stuck with a useless band.

Oh my goodness I feel for you .  I was lucky in that my  band slipped but had just barley  started erosion .  I had emergency surgery Dec 3 2010 Doctor said my stomach needed to heal before he put band back on..  I have gained 28 lbs  in a month and a half.  At this point  I will not be able to have band replaced because of insurance . I have wriiten a letter and Dr sent notes and I am hoping.  2010 there was not exclusion with Missouri State Insurance but 2011 ther is .  Crazy if you ask me .   Don't give up with insurance keep finghting untill you can't fight anymore.   Good luck to you.

Hugs! That is so sad! I don't know how many ppl I have seen post on the forums that they lost weight with the band but it had to be replaced................and then they didn't lose with the 2nd one. But to NOT lose and then have erosion is even worse!!! :-)

Hope u can revise to VSG, so much damage from the band!!!

Good luck hun!

Sorry you are having so much trouble! I hope you will be able to revise to the sleeve, I think you will like it. at least most people on the sleeve board love theirs. I would think since you are having so much trouble with the band that chances are good your ins. will cover revision. If they deny do appeal, lots of folks have to do that but do eventually get OKd. Hope things get resolved soon!

I'm so sorry!  I know all this has you feeling really down on yourself, but it's not your fault!  When you have to deal with this kind of physical and emotional struggle, controlling your weight just isn't your primary focus, and it shouldn't be.  Your focus needs to be on getting healthy, and if the band has to go, let it go, and find another way.  I'll bet you're underestimating your guy, and projecting your negative feelings about yourself on him.  I've been married to the same man for over 30 years, an he's loved me fat, and he's loved me thin.  But, honestly, when I gain weight, I get so down on myself, and don't want to do anything fun, or even dress up.  *That* kind of behavior is more likely to sabotage a relationship than what the scale says.   As long as you are taking charge of the situation and moving forward, you will feel better about yourself, your relationship is likely to be more positive, and you'll probably do better with your weight as well, regardless of what happens with your band and revision.

And remind yourself "I am 70 lbs. less than I used to be."

I wish you the best in overcoming this hurdle.

The weight gain is beyond your control at this point and the main focus is to get better.  Don't dwell on the gain,  Your husband will love you no matter what.  I'm sure his only concern is your health.  You know what the problem is and you are doing something about it.  It is not anything that eventually cannot be resloved.  Best of luck to you.
