How much did you lose pre-op?

Hi, Im new here and wondering how much weight everyone had lost before surgery.  I am 5'5 started at 272 over a month ago and down 21lbs.  I am watching my diet and using the eliptical daily for 60 minutes.   I know my intital weight loss will slow down to 1-2 pounds a week soon, but what I am afraid of is losing too much not to qualify for surgery.  Anyone else have this issue?

I am 5'2 1/2. I lost 10 lbs. on my own (started at 275) and 10 lbs. on my clear liquid pre-op diet (lost in ten days- that took me down to 265.) I was still well over 100 lbs. overweight so I still qualified.

I am very heavy. My BMI was in the 70s. I lost 102 lbs pre op in about 6 months. I swam and worked with a nutritionist. I had concerns with losing so much weight without surgery. I was told that as long as your BMI is over a certain number I would still qualify. It wouldn't hurt to ask your surgeon about it.

Nothing! I wasn't told to.

But someone once asked Dr Curry (who used to be OH resident band doctor) and he said that the weight that he and the insurance company took into consideration was the wait at the start of any pre-op diet not on the day of surgery.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Good Im glad to hear that they go from the inital weight.  I go back this week to the Dr and Im going to ask him as well.  They told me I needed to lose 10% before surgery, which I was like.. heck I can give you 20%.  Once I start on a exercise program I tend to get a little obsessive about it and not want to stop.  Plus the more I lose now the further ahead I will be.  I have no problem losing the weight its keeping it off that is the problem the plateaus are very discouraging to me. Im hoping the band will give me the tool's needed to be a constant reminder to stay on track.
