A.M. Protein?

So.  I've finally convinced my nutritionist to let me wean myself off the protein shakes in the morning.  I just go crazy when I read the ingredients... all those chemicals and non-foods!  This morning I had some greek yogurt for breakfast and while I knew that it wasn't as much protein as what I'd been having with my shake (50 g in the shake vs. 11g in the yogurt), I had no idea that the difference would be this drastic.  Normally I'm not hungry again until almost 1:00 but here it is, not even noon, and my stomach is making noises that people have heard from like 3 offices away and I'm starting to get kind of light-headed.  This is NOT GOOD.

Any good morning protein suggestions?  I am generally nauseous in the morning and have trouble eating much, always been that way, so I like something not too heavy that I can grab and not have to prepare.  I also don't eat anything with more than about 5 ingredients or with any ingredients that I can't pronouce.  (The main reason for wanting to go off the shakes so badly).

HELP!!!

Your body can only process 30 grams of protein in one sitting the rest you dump.. so 50 grams is excessive to me.. just my two cents.

I eat 60-100 grams of protein a day but you just killed 1/2 or more than 1/2 in one meal. I'm not sure thats necessary??

and when I usually get 100 it's because I had a protein shake or protein snack otherwise I'm close to 60-75.

Your breakfast should keep you full to 3-4 hours before your next meal. Has it been 3-4 hours? if it has then eat. Or eat a piece of cheese as a snack..

We are aren't meat to eat shakes as meals.. we are suppose to eat 3 - 4oz meals.. and I usually include 1 snack and sometimes 1 dessert at night sugar free jello.

Really?  Wow, I knew that we would only absorb what our bodies needed from vitamins, I wasn't aware that was true of protein too.  Huh.  Very interesting.

I guess it has been long enough, I had that yogurt at about 8:00 this morning.  I'm just used to staying full for so much longer.  My goal for protein is 75 g per day.  That's the reason for the super powered shake, everything else I've been getting from my food.  But like I said, I want to get rid of the shakes as soon as I can.

I think I'll give in and just have lunch, thanks!!

a semi confusing article LOL.. we don't need anything in excess to put it simply. Protein is great because it keeps you full and takes a while to break down but if we are eating more than we need  it doesn't really "aid" us....

i like eating Jimmy Deans D lights breakfast bowls.

It has egg, turkey sausage and few tators in it and has 23 grams of protein in it .  I can eat one of them and it keeps me full for a good 3.5 to 4 hrs

I've seen those and they are probably a good option but that ingredients list scares the pants off of me.  I could probably come up with a homemade version so I would know what was actually in it... hmmm... thanks!

I like to have Quaker weight control oatmeal (has extra protein) mixed with a non fat yogurt or even a greek yogurt. I also will slowly eat a greek yogurt mixed with Kashi Go Lean. It holds me longer. You could continue to eat light in the a.m. and have a string cheese mid-morning. Another thing I have used is non fat cottage cheese, a little s.f. pudding mix (I use vanilla), and some fruit like strawberries and a few walnut halves. I have also found some breakfast egg dishes (I use egg beaters) that can be made ahead and grabbed quickly. Even a small serving is good protein, and filling.

The nausea you have in the morning is probably from your blood sugar going low overnight. I get that, as did one of our daughters. You need to eat, unfortunately that is the last thing you want to do. Just do the best you can. Perhaps a protein snack before bed could help.

Good luck with the transition, Sue

I start the day with a  (very!) large skinny latte. 12gm protein. So that and a large yoghourt (which i don't actually have!) would be 12 + 11.  In fact the latte lasts me until lunch time if i am busy and until about 10:30 if I am not busy!

When we have very small meals, breakfast time until 1 p.m. is  a long time! Why not have something mid-morning?

I don't drink coffee... (how do you get protein in your latee, BTW, is just from the mik?)

I'm sure a small snack mid-morning would be fine.  I had just gotten used to not being hungry until early afternoon and I was hoping that was going to be my normal, that's all.  I guess I'll have to incorporate some protein for mid-morning.  At this point I'm showing up everyday so loaded up with tupperware containers, it's hysterical!!

Yes, my lattes are just espresso coffee and steamed milk.

We are all so different but most bandsters don't expect to go 5 hours between eating. If you can, that's great! But most of us need to eat more often that - our meals are so small that gettign all the nutirents in would be hard if we only ate every 5 hours!

I seem to remember that early on I ate less often but now I  often eat every 3 or 4 hours. Although if I am busy I sometimes forget!
