Looks like this will allow more people to qualify for the surgery.

If you want peoples' views, check back. It got quite a few responses yesterday when Judy posted it.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I'm so glad this is being made possible. I've been banded or over 3 years. My starting weight was 190 and I was often blasted by my some of my fellow banders and non wls people about having the band as a "lightweight". However, you ask the question to most wls, if they had any regrets and the most popular answers is not doing it earlier. Hmmmm....
Best wishes to ALL those who suffer with obesity regardless of where you are in the journey!

Bandhope, this is a good answer.  I was so surprised yesterday on the answers to MM's post on the main forum about this.  All these self righteous posters criticizing lightweights for getting WLS.  When we started putting on weight we knew where it was going to  lead to in ten years, morbid obesity, and all the complications that go with it.  If we all could have had WLS when we started getting out of control less people would die from this surgery.  Surgery on an obese person is very dangerous and quite a risk (in case anyone forgot or wasn't  told this).  We all have gone on every diet and many of us have taken dangerous diet drugs only to get heavier and heavier.  Good for the FDA.

This really doesn't change anything.  Doctors have always done SELF PAY banding for lower BMIs. Thing is, just because the FDA said it's okay to do what doctors have been doing anyway, it doesn't mean insurance co's will pay for it.

So really, what changed?
