Ive been noticing that my hair has been falling out alot more frequently these days...I dont know if its because I need a haircut (seeing as I havent have 1 in a year or more), or am I not getting enough nutrients?? Anyone else having or had this issue before?? Thanks in advance :)

I lost alot of hair in the beginning, for about the first 6-8 months.  It then leveled out and I am currently not losing any more than would be normal.  It could be your protein, but my doctor also said that it could just be that my weight loss was so dramatic in the beginning that my body just needed to get used to it.  Make sure you are getting enough protein though.

Its very common with surgery.  I lost a lot of hair 4-8 months out and then it stopped and started to grow back.  Then 13 months out of lapband surgery I had my gall bladder out and ***** if my hair didn't start to fall out again.  It is now starting to stop.  I guess I'm just one of those people who is going to suffer  hair loss with surgery.

I had lap band surgery in September of 2010 and I too experience hair loss.  When I saw my surgeon in January of 2011, he recommended I start taking Biotin because of the protein.  I started taking it then and have noticed an improvement.  You might consider that as a supplement.

Google telogen effluvium. Temporary hair loss due to anaesthesia, pregnancy, trauma and dramatic weight loss among other things ( the dramatic loss doesn't actually apply to us bandsters). The damage is caused at the time of the anaesthesia etc.  but takes about 3 or more months until the hair falls out. By the time this happens, regrowth has already started.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Interesting, Kate!  I've never heard of telogen effluvium, but that makes perfect sense!  From what I read, as long as the "identifiable inciting factor" (i.e. anesthesia, crash dieting, etc), then no other treatment is necessary and "treatment can be limited to reassurance."

Maybe try adding about 3000 mcg of Biotin daily. (I've taken up to 5000 mcg in the past, but found that 3000 mcg worked well enough!) It might not keep your hair from falling out, but it will cause your hair to grow faster and thicker... or at least, it did for me.

When I had the lapband, I was severely malnourished and lost a lot of hair. You might try adding nutrients. Maybe talk to your nutritionist and see what you might be needing in your diet?

One of the things my nutrionist advised me to take before the surgery was Biotin so I take 2 times a day 1000 mcg Sugar-Free Sublingual Biotin and it works.
