Well I had my surgery yesterday, they also had to repair a hernia that I had,  The doctor said I could take loratab for the pain, but I feel the most horrible pain in my stomach.  I've been walking and taking gasx, but still no relief.  How many more days of this, I don't think I can stand it much longer....would appreciate any advice thanks

The way in which we feel pain and the amount of pain we feel varies enormously. All I can suggest is, take the maximum meds and try to keep moving as much as possible. Often a lot of the pain we get is from trapped gas and moving helps that.

Hope you feel better soon.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

As the others have said, take the pain meds as prescribed.  DO NOT wait for the pain to take them.. take them every time you are allowed to have them.. every 4 or 6 or 8 or Whatever the timing is.  Pain meds work much better at preventing pain than relieving it.

What are you allowed to consume at this point?  If it's still just clear liquids, if chicken broth is allowed, try sipping on some warm broth.  I found that if I let my stomach get completely empty during the healing phase .. I hurt worse.  Small sips of whatever you are allowed would be my suggestion.  If you have to eat more often than suggested to be comfortable.. talk to your surgeon (or one of the nurses) about this.

Call your surgeon's office for help too.  They can offer suggestions to get you through this.

Hope you feel better soon.

I found the heating pad help me alot!!!    Try that.   And I walked around the house alot.    I had mine for 3 days after the surgery.   But between the walking, pain meds and heating pad it helped.   Good luck.   And welcome to the losers bench!!!

Take Care,

Susan

You should contact your MD and ask for a different pain medication.  My MD gave me liquid percocet which really helped the pain a lot.

Everyone is different on their pain.  I never had incision pain but had something that was almost like chest pain.  (also had hernia repair)

Keep walking around, keep sipping water and hang in there.  You will come around the bend before you know it!

Same as Renee, Had the band and hernia repair and I swear the pain was horrific Days 2-4.  Read my blog from the beginning. Honestly, by day 5,  I was on top of the world. FYI, Some of the pain medicine may cause constipation so have suppositories available if ex-lax doesn't work. (Per my Dr.) Of course ask your doc first. Its all on my blog.  Hang in there and welcome to the LOSERS BENCH!
