Ladies, Thanx for your quick responses!!!I'm a little freaked out about the port. Can you feel it? The Doc last nigth was def. discouraging the band. He was saying you could feel it.
Oh yeah! You can't really notice it before you lose weight but once you get to goal it sticks out like a tumor and I had the low profile port. I couldn't wear spandex shirts because my port stuck out and it was gross.

You've read horror stories on here because there are plenty of horror stories to tell! Also if u go to the revision forum u will see tons of ppl that have posted on there revising FROM the band. If the band was that great u wouldn't have all those ppl wanting to put theirselves through the pain, time and EXPENSE of another WLS now would u?!
I would not recommend the band to my worst enemy!
Please read this post by the
ASMBS that basically says now ineffective that the band is:

Think twice, cut once!!!

The vultures are swooping in......
You have to research each surgery and weigh your pros and cons of what you want out of this. I went to the seminar with the lap band in mind.....then, I learned about the sleeve and wanted to change my mind but when I did the research as to what my insurance would pay, the sleeve (according to MY INSURANCE) is still considered "experimental" and they dont know enough about it to approve that surgery yet. So, I weighed my pros and cons between the gastric bypass and the lap band. I decided that the lap band was MY best choice.
I have been very happy with my lapband and what it has done for me so far. Im two months out and have lost 30lbs. One of my main reasons for leaning towards the lap band is that I have a lot of flexibility with it. I can fill/unfill as needed and I feel more in control with that instead of having my intestines and stomach all cut and re-routed or part of my stomach removed completely.
As far as failed horror stories on the revision boards, I do believe there are failed horror stories about ALL forms of WLS on those boards. So please, dont be scared away by the negative vultures that will drill into you how bad the lap band is.
MAKE YOUR CHOICE ON WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU IN YOUR LIFE!!! Weigh your pros and cons and do what matters to YOU. Not by someone elses unfortunate experience with their band.

Thanx MizzRI,
I actually did go over to the revision board and there were just an many horror stories about everyother surgery as there were for the lap band.. so I'm really no further than I was two days ago. Just even more scared.
I think though, I'm not SUPER obese, I would have more flexibility, and same thing here, I cannot get the sleeve.. or I would lean with that... but I think I'm going to trust my gut.. no pundt intended... and probably go with the lap band.:::: I think::: lol....

No, not really. The people posting on the revision board, check it out. Probably 49% are bands wanting to revise to something else, 49% are bypass wanting to revise to something else, 1% are sleeves and 1% are DS.
BIG HUGE difference.

Mizzi perhaps U should visit the revision forum and find out what % of revisions are those revising FROM the band. Yes, there are failed horror stories from all forms of WLS. However the band seems to have the highest % of ppl revising FROM it! If the band was that great.............why would ppl want to get rid of it and go through the pain and expense of yet ANOTHER WLS?!?!?!
And the reference to "vultures" it extremely tacky.............and a bit of an over exageratin, don't u think?!
And btw...........u are just 2 mos. out. Band problems don't usuallly start that early. Your time will probabaly come dear..............then u will remember this post!
Listen Maria.....
My statement never said anything specific as far as %'s go for revisions....I simply stated that every WLS has its horror stories! I am NOT over here stating that the lap band is for everybody and I am NOT saying the lap band is the only way to go. I am simply telling someone who is basing their decision on reading horror stories to just take into account that ALL WLS's have their own horror stories and to try not to base her decision on that.
Yes, I am only two months out and that is why I feel like I needed to answer to this poster because I was in their shoes not too long ago and if I went through and read all the negative crap that you put out there, I probably wouldnt have gotten ANY WLS done. I am a true believer is doing the research YOURSELF and choosing what is best for YOU.....DO NOT go by someone elses successes or failures because as we know with ANY diet/WLS, every outcome is DIFFERENT. Just because YOURS didnt work...does not mean it wont work for someone else!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As far as "my time will come"......I pray that it doesnt, but I also know (because Im an intelligent woman) that there is a possibility (as with ANY WLS) that this may not work for me. You know why I know that Marie??? BECAUSE I DID THE DAMN RESEARCH MYSELF!!! Not because I read your bullsh*t posts!! And I tell you what, IF that time comes, I will NOT become a negative basher of the band on this board because what did or did not work for ME does not mean that it will/will not work for someone else. I see MANY success stories (and long term banders) on this board that give so much encouragement and PROOF that the band CAN and DOES work and I refuse to become a vulture.....YUP, there I go, being "tacky"....thats funny coming from you!
to the Original Poster.....PLEASE dont feed into the negativity that you may read here....I beg you to do the research yourself and choose what is the right choice for YOU! whatever that may be, I wish you the best of luck in your weight loss journey. And, even if you do not choose the band, you can always come here and get support for your weight loss from most of us!
