slider foods?

Hi there!
I just went to get my 2nd fill in my band after having my little one last yr. in February. I got my first fill in October 2010 and just went in today for my 2nd fill. It's been awhile since I've had any good restriction. So, I'm hoping this fill will get me on my way to a healthier life (again. post baby...lol.)

My doctor mentioned something about slider foods and explained a little bit about some of them, like mashed potatoes. I can totally understand why those could be bad, but what about high fiber or high protein yogurt, or oatmeal? Or cottage cheese?

Should I avoid them all, or just have some of them in small amounts like the cottage cheese and /or yogurt?

I am having a hard time remembering a lot of the little things. Thanks for reading this.

I was told that by having a little yogurt as a "dessert" after eating dense protein it would be a slider and actually push the meat through faster.  That would be like having soup with your meal. It would dilute the food and it would go through alot faster, defeating the purpose of the band.

Some will have some soup first and then the dense protein.  Or some will have a thick soup and it stays with them.  As far as yogurt, I have Greek yogurt for breakfast and it holds me until lunch and it has 14 grams of protein. Or  I also might have steel cut oats for breakfast and that sticks with me until lunch.

And some people's sliders might not be the same for another person.

I eat a lot of yogurt - it helps me to get in all my protein.  It is true that it will slide thru your band quicker than dense protein, but you could use it as a snack, or eat it first, then add some veggies.

The foods you mention do 'go down' easier than solid protein, but I do eat them.

I eat yogurt for breakfast alot ---- it is ri*****alcium and protein.

For me -- I try to avoid the 'slider' foods that are nutritionally void -- chips, sweets ---because they slide right down, do not satisfy my appetite and add alot of empty calories.

But yogurt and cottage cheese satisfy my mouth and my appetite.

As far as potatoes go, I eat a small amount of baked sweet potato -- higher in fiber than white potatoes, and more tasty to me.
