FINALLY!
finished my six-month diet this week and FINALLY have a surgery date: march 9! can't believe that it's just around the corner!
one tiny kink: i saw my endo yesterday and he wants me to have a sleep study done prior to my surgery because of the complications that could happen if i went under without knowing whether or not i have sleep apnea. he scheduled it for tomorrow night.
i'm confused as to whether or not it's necessary. my surgeon didn't require it (he only requires blood work and metabolic panel at my age), my insurance didn't require it: do i need it? i don't think i even have sleep apnea - i think i'm overweight because of my metabolic issues, i'm tired because i don't sleep more than 6 hours a night, and snore because everyone in my family does.
i feel like this is just one more thing to do when i felt like i was done and ready for banding. also: the idea of the sleep study is creepy to me.
any advice? did your surgeon require a sleep study before banding? i've called the surgeon's office but haven't heard back yet...

I had to have a sleep study too..It wasnt a requirement of my insurance either, but it was suggested by my dr...It really wasnt that bad...I was kinda creeped out thinking about someone watching me sleep too..but in the end..I fell asleep just find and never even thought about someone watching...I would go have it done if it was suggested...You may get the results and have nothing wrong and went for no reason at all..or you could go and find out there was a reason he sent you....Congrats on getting your date!!
My doc wanted one done and I was self pay.
I told him absolutly not !!! I asked him point blank what would he do different in surgery if I had the test done compared to if I didnt have the test done and he said nothing we watch every patient the same way I got my answer right then and there !!!!
The doc is going to do nothing different if you have one done compared to somebody that didnt have one done.
he is going to take care of everybody the same way . I was watched just like anybody else that had it done or didnt have it done .
My gf refused one also .

I had to have one because my insurance required it. They say that many people who are overweight have sleep apnea and have no idea. I was sure I didn't have it, but they said I had a very mild case (which wouldn't affect the surgery). I thought the sleep study was the worst part of all of the pre-op tests. They kept waking me up and I got to a point where I just couldn't sleep anymore, so I went home at like 3:30 in the morning. But the way I saw it, it was just one step to get to my goal.
Why not do it, it's a simple thing? If you snore and don't have restful sleep it is very possible you do have apnea. Mine was easy, just went to a room that looked like a hotel and except for having wires hooked up just spent a night sleeping and woke up to a nice bagel and juice for breakfast. If you think you'll have trouble sleeping ask your doc for something to help you sleep. It's really no big deal, it's not like they stand over you and watch you sleep, they are jus****ching what the machines are reporting.
