Oh, and we are happy to have you on this board! Welcome!
I have swelling after a fill, also after a bad stuck episode. The only time saliva pools in my throat is when I am stuck. I always take a protein shake to "check" my fills. If it has trouble going down, I am too tight. If you cannot drink a protein shake tomorrow, I would call, if you can't drink water, call right away. I've found looser is better than too tight, for me. Sometimes if they only take a little out, if is so much better. If you can drink hot liquids, your meds may go down easier. Good luck. I hope it all is well, soon.
Mari Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels!
Glad you're here with us! Besides the band and sleeve boards, you might want to pop into the RNY board occasionally, too, since you plan to eventually revise to that (and DS too, if there's any possibility you can go that route instead of RNY).
Be careful with that fill. If your mouth is filling with saliva, you may be too tight, but it could be from post-fill swelling. As long as you can drink water, hang with it for a day or two and see how you progress to mushies and solids. Be really careful with your meds, too, and consider crushing if you can (check with your pharmacist). If you can't eat solids in a couple of days, call your doc, and see what he says. Personally, with a combination surgery like yours, I'd want to be extra cautious with fill level.
Wishing you the best,
Tami

Thanks so much for answering my questions. It really helps me to learn as much as I can with each new step. I'm still doing ok with liquids. Although last night as I was going to bed I forgot and took a big gulp of water and it stayed in my throat for a little bit. I will start pureed a little later today and see how that goes. I was given the ok to open my capsules and put the powder in my pudding. I'm going to try it but I'm afraid it will be bitter. Has anyone else tried this? How was it?
It really depends on the medication. I've had some that had no taste at all, and others that were horrible. I was on a nasty antibiotic a few weeks ago for a UTI, and it was huge. I crushed it with a mortar and pestle to a fine powder and mixed it with Light Cool Whip. I swallowed it quickly, followed by a small sip of Crystal Light. It went down just fine, and minimized the time it was able to connect with my tongue.

What you described is fairly common. The band doesn't have to be filled to work. There are so many variables to consider that you just have to go with your own experience becuase we are all individuals and no 2 stores are ever the same. I know bandsters that have gone a year without anything in their band. In fact, I know 2 people that didn't have fills for at least 9 months and they lost consistently.
You can keep an eye on both forums, but the food hits the band first, so you'll have to learn how to deal with that experience anyway.
Plus, we love you! You're part of us now!
Best~

I'm not really sure where I belong on here. I have the lap band over gastric plication. I can relate to many of the band conversations. But I've been told the plication is close to the same as the sleeve because it reduces the stomach size by up to 2/3. So, since I have two proceedures combined, many of my experiences will be much different than other bandsters. For example today I went for my post op-group for nutrition and psych. After that I got my first fill. It was done under flouro like many other bandsters. However I was told my band is quite tight even though my band was left empty when it was implanted. They debated on whether to try 1/2 or 1 cc. They went with 1cc and the fluid didn't come back up. They debated about whether to take half of it back out. But since the fluid didn't come back up we left it at 1cc. They did warn that there is a chance it may be too much restriction. So, if there are problems getting things down, I'll have to go back for an unfill. I know most other bandsers require multiple fills before getting much restriction.
When I respond to posts my experiences are different than most because of the plication. So do I belong here or the VSG board or somewhere else. I feel like the redheaded step-child of the family.
You can post anywhere you wish. Or everywhere! You are free to post on any forum that gives you the info you are looking for.
I will tell you there are a ton of band to sleeve revision people on the sleeve board so many there will relate to the band and sleeve both.

I know this board has been very helpful for me as far as the band goes. And the band it what I need to know the most about since that's where the food goes through first. I don't want to get something stuck and, if I am having an issue, this is the perfect place to ask questions. It was also very helpful in helping me to know what to expect for my first fll. I have been lurking on the other boards. But this is the one I read and post on.
