I am thinking about running a 5K when I come home on Vacation in June. Right now I am not working out much, but came Feb 23 I will ( studying for a test that I will be taking). I need help on what to do to train and any information anyone can give me.
Thanks  Barb

If you are not a runner and need to ease into traiing you could try the couch to 5k program (www.c25k.com).  I have not used it myself but I am in the middle of the couch to 10k and find it to be a really helpful way to slowly bulid up stamina and running ability.

Good luck!

I did the C25K running plan mentioned in the PP, and I loved it! I finished the program and 2 weeks later ran my first 5K in 33 minutes and 5 seconds. You can do it!

oh yeah! The couch to 5k is great. www.c25k.com

it's literally takes you from running 25 second intervals to running a 5k in 9 weeks. They allow for some extra time in between if need be. I highly recommend it!!!

Get a good timer watch/ stop watch/ phone and go for it. Interval training is fantastic. And when it's not, which is while doing it, I just kept thinking to myself..." it's only 25 seconds. I can do anything for 25 seconds... right?"

Let us know how it goes Barb.

I started using a Couch to 5K app on my iPhone. See if there's an app for your phone. It's really cool. You can download your own music, there's a timer, it tells you when to walk and when to run, let's you journal on your session....

Since I never ran before, I'm doing Week 1 twice. I can't believe I'm running.

Good Luck!!

If you use an iPod, you might want to go to the iTunes store, and check out "Podrunner:  Intervals"  They have a couch to 5K program, set to music, with tones to signal when to walk and when to run.  Every two weeks you download the next level, and it gradually increases the running time.  I have to admit that I never got past the second stage :-(  Running just doesn't agree with my knees!
