I am trying to get back on the wagon I'm eating my protein shake 31 grams 230 cal (including the milk I hate water in my shakes) A full bar 150 calories 15 grams of pro and a wedys chilli 220 cals and 18 gram a pro.  Any idea for dinner or should I just stick with another protein shake.  Time to get back on track!!! =)

One thing I like to do is make a big pot of chicken veggie soup.  I use a big carton of broth, a big bag of frozen veggies, some Italian seasoning, a couple of bay leaves and pepper.  Bring to a boil, simmer a few minutes, and then add pre-cooked chopped chicken (rotisserie makes it easy).  If I have some healthy, tasty soup I can grab out of the fridge, I'm less likely to eat something I shouldn't.  It's very low calorie, and filling.

You say "back in the wagon" so I am assuming you are not recently banded.

Why go on to liquids and sliders? The band works with solid protein. i know some people feel that going on to a liquid diet may jump start loss but there is no evidence that this has any effect more than any drop in calories would have. And a dramatic drop in calories might give quick results but the pounds may well return when you return to normal eating.

Why not just go back to eating band style? And then the band can help you!

I eat a lot of soup and it's my problem and I love love love soup lol!!! So I eat that and don't get filled and then at night I am so hungry that I go crazy.  I don't eat bad things per say it's just the amounts and I have such a dam testy band that one min I'm ok nect I am to tight and need a total unfill I have had 4 of them.  I am about 5 years out still lost weight but gained a little back.

Could you eat soup with "bits"? Like I had pea and ham soup for lunch and there were big chunks of ham in it!

I love soup but it is a trade-off. If I have soup for lunch, I have an extra "meal" late afternoon or i am too hungry to wait for dinner!

I agree with kate you need the solid protein or you will find you are getting hungry faster. Try solid protein and veggies.

My doc and nutritionist do not recommend liquid meal replacement shakes(except following a fill or after a stuck episode) and consider them to be slider and maladaptive eating...a better option if you want something quick is an Atkins Advantage Bar...the protein is about 17-20 gr per bar and 200 calories.

That said, I do enjoy soup and make them pretty hearty with lots of veggies and protein and brothy.  To make eating them "band friendly" and comply with my nut's and doc's instructions, I eat the broth part first and then eat the solid...works great and I stay satisfied for about 4 hours at optimal fill.

Getting back on track would be eating 3 oz of dense protein and 1/4c of a veggie.  I only have a protein shake after a stuck episode or after a fill.  You aren't working your band if you are doing liquids.  It's all about satiety, feeling satisfied for 4 hours after eating your meal.  If you need a snack you can have a high protein item, like a cheesestick or a greek yogurt etc.

I have to be honest and say that protein shakes and chili don't really satisfy my hunger.

Protein shakes go right down -- for the same 230 calories, I could eat 3 ounces of tuna with light mayo, sliced cucumber and tomato and 12 Low-fat crackers ---- that would keep me satisfied for 4 hours.  It also give me about 20 grams of protein.

I just don't think that liquid calories stick with me long enough to make them worth it.

Real food works best for me.
