Good luck on your surgery! Follow your surgeon's plan and you will do great.
Hi,
check out the Mens forum. You might get a few more answers on that forum.
I lost 100lbs in my 1st year by following these basic rules.
1. Stop drinking 30 mins prior to eating, take 30 mins to eat , start drinking water 30 mins after your last bite.
2. Dense protein 1st (3 -4 oz), then veggie /fruit, if room a little starch
3. Move Move Move. 30 mins every day of exercising. what every you want to do as long as you move that body.
3. 3 meals & 2 snacks - that is it. No grazing
4. Sugar - no more that 5 grams per serving.
I don't think the surgery is any different between male/ female. A tummy is a tummy.
Good luck. We will see you on the loosers bench.

I can only tell you about my own Lap-Band journey. i had my surgery on Feb. 3rd 2010. My A1C was 9.1 I weighed 215lbs. I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath. Today I weigg about 85lbs lighter I've run a 5k and a 10k race and the 10k went over an unbelievably sttep bridge. I'm training for a Half Marathon and then a full marathon. I have a new lease on life. Every aspect of my life has improved. BTW my A1C now is 5.1 without medications.
Now as far as tips and tricks. There aren't any. Do exactly what your doctor tells you to do. Move at the speed and intensity the doctors let's you go. Then when they say go,GO!

There are a few of us on here, although we're definitely in the minority (both in overall population and in number of posts -- no offense intended ladies! ).
Based on the posts I've seen here, I don't notice any significant differences between men and women WRT banding other than what you would find with any other weight loss or diet plan -- men tend to lose weight more easily and quickly (at least in the beginning), and can usually eat a higher calorie load. E.g. my surgeon's handout guidelines recommend 60-75 grams of protein per day, but told me that men should usually be at the 85-90 kind of range.
I was banded on 11/10/10, and am down a little over 40 pounds (from a starting weight of 325). Quick drop of about 15 the first couple weeks, then a slow, steady loss of 1-2 pounds per week which is right in line with expectations. I'm fortunate not to have needed any fills so far. I think I probably eat more than what I see from a lot of folks on here, but there again I'm a guy, and as long as the weight keeps coming off at a reasonable pace I don't see any reason to worry about it.
Good luck, hope everything went well with your surgery!
Jon

Thanks everyone for the support... Im 2 days post op and im doing pretty damn good. Not a lot of gas which is good. Just a bit sore.. but after years of broken bones and injuries from football and mx riding.... its just another day. According to my doctor...Apparently I have "rock hard abs" underneath the layers of fat...lol. He had some difficulty getting through, so i am a bit more sore than I should be.
Doing great with clear liquids..cant wait to move on.
