My surgery was a little over two weeks ago and I am on pureed food.  I don't feel hungry and i dont know when im full.  I have been good at measuring but they say stop if you feel full?  I don't feel full or empty?

Is it normal not to feel hungry at all?  If i eat lunch at 11a by dinner at 6pm i feel something of an "i need to eat" but nothing like hunger?   Am I normal?

Yes, you are normal, but very lucky!  A lot of people have some swelling after surgery, and even though they don't have any saline in the band, they still get the effects of restriction.  Just stick with eating the amount that the doctor recommended.  Probably that old hunger will return before you start getting fills, so enjoy this now, and take advantage of it!

Jewels,

You are normal lol .  I was the same way .  I am three months post op and I have been skipping fills.  My band is empty the day he put it in me :o)

I was the exact same way when I got out of surgery and still am today.  In fact I  have to make myself eat lunch at times just so I can get my protein in for the day if I dont then I dont get my protein in for the day .

I can eat breakfast around 10 and have to make myself eat around 2 then I dont even think about eating dinner till around 7 that night.

I can stay full if I eat about 20 grams of protein for my meal at least a good 4  hrs and sometimes I can go as long as six hrs :o)

My doc is very pleased with what Im doing .  Im losing 7-10 pounds per visit every four weeks and as long as Im doing that then no fills for me .  I love it , I dont get sick eating foods, I can eat what I want without getting stuck and I can drink 6-8 oz of water at a time .

Enjoy it and I hope it lasts for you !!! Because I love it !!!

Thank you so much for your posts.  Your experience seems to be exactly what I am going through.  I was worried after surgery that i would not be able to drink normally and I can also drink a full glass of water without having to sip.sip.sip.   I love the feeling of not being hungry.  Before surgery I use to say, I am not hungry all the time i dont know why i overeat.  After surgery I realized I WAS hungry all the time, I just didnt notice it as I was always eating!    For the first time in many many years I have a peaceful feeling when it comes to food and I am enjoying it.

I am one of the lucky ones also because I am just now starting to feel some hunger but not all the time.  I am 2 months post-op.  I passed up my fill at 6 weeks also.  I am going to have a fill this Thursday though.  I feel I need a little more help.
You need to remember that you do NOT want to eat until you are full.  You are to eat a measured out portion of food, anywhere from 1/2 C to 1 cup, total.  Then you are to stop.  Sometimes it's hard cause the food may taste good and you want some more but try to stop.  You don't want to stretch out your pouch.  There is an excellent article on todays forum.  Kate posted it.  Look for it and read it if you haven't already.  It explains very well what the job of your band is and what your job is.  I never feel a sensation of fullness but sometimes when I eat, and I do it very slowly and carefully and chew very well, I get a pain in my back between my shoulder blades.  That is a signal for me that I need to stop eating.  It sometimes happens before my measured out food is gone.  The advice I was given by the drs office is to try to learn to stop before that pain starts.  It's a tricky thing but I have caught it sometimes.  It happens more often with really dense protein like beef or pork.  Not feeling hungry is a blessing for sure.  I love it!
