Paiting Chief you are correct, I am not sure if some people are mentally challenged who get the band they know FULL WELL, the Lap Band requires MORE UPFRONT exercise than any other procedure for adeqate weight loss, some people will get it and abuse it and jack up the saline to the point of barely swallowing their spit and when their band slips from all the vomiting, they blame the band. I use to feel sorry for them, I don't anymore *sigh*.

Hi,
You make a very good point -- my surgeon was pretty specific about this too.
The only "problem" was I didn't make the connection : ) He point blank said I would have to excersise about a half hour a day to see weight loss. My first thought was GREAT I've already got that covered -- been doing it for years!! And I mentally checked off one less new thing to do with this surgery. Well... DUH.... if I had been that active for years my body was already accustomed to that much activity and would need the 1/2 hour on TOP of the 1/2 hour I was already doing. You would think anybody that has even a few working brain cells would get this, but somehow it just didn't register for me :)
So, I'm working on always doing more than my "old" 1/2 hour routine to get in the extra exersise needed.

95 percent of Revision patients have one thing in common abusing their tools, I never venture there, it's depressing.
You are right. I know I did. I read a long posting by someone who explained just what the band was really intended to. It's not really to restrict us, but to supress our appetite. I don't know if I was fed too much information and only grabbed hold of what I remembered during all my pre-op consultations/seminars/etc., or if 4 years ago, the Lap-Band was marketed differently. In any event, the posting on here was so informative about how the band is really intended to supress the appetite. When I was first banded and up until I was rebanded, I ate until I felt full. I left it up to my stomach to decide when I was done. I thought that was the band's job....why I got it in the first place. Then when I read this posting about how we should measure our food for every meal and eat that portion only (nothing more), it finally dawned on me. Jean talks about measuring food all the time. I did in my head, but what's in your head vs. what actually equals a cup is COMPLETELY different. Nonetheless, I'm learning and doing things the right way now. I'm not 100% perfect and I do sometimes forget to chew, chew, chew, but I'm looking at this revision with a completely different perspective. I hope that with my revision, that my stomach is not too stretched to make this revision work. I read from this same posting I'm referring to that when 1st banded, the stomach lining is really thick, but overtime of overeating (not measuring food) that we stretch out the pouch causing the lining to thin out. I wonder if that was/will be corrected with this revision. Right now though, I'm in bandster hell, as they call it around here. I have not been adjusted yet since my surgery on Jan. 20th. I have to wait 6 weeks before I can get an adjustment. I'm trying very hard to make good choices, but I'm not as satisfied between meals as I'd like to be.
